They were just walking down the road when it happened. The incident. Nobody spoke about it later. It would hurt to much. She needed to talk about it. The only thing is, every time she did she'd break down into tears.
First they were just getting ice cream. Her and her mum. They went to the local cafe as per usual and they both got mint flavoured ice cream. Nothing unusual about the day. But that soon changed. As they turned the corner past the hairdressers a large white van swung around the corner. The driver was on his phone and was going way too fast. The van had to swerve onto the pavement to avoid a cyclist. He bounced off the wall and ricocheted into her mum. Her skull was crushed and her arm was torn off. It was a quick death. All she could do was stare at her mum's corpse. She looked up, there was the van driver. He was dead to. Laying down in a pool of his own blood...he had half a face!
Shaking, she picked up her mum's phone. She dialed 999 and screamed her head off. The operator understood everything and sent a team down. It wasn't a team she wanted, it was her mum. Praying, no, begging for the woman who brought her up to come back. Willing it to be a nightmare. But it was very real. Her mum was dead. And she had seen it happen.
A woman came over to her. The woman was wearing an ugly mustard jumper and a purple and red kilt. Her feet were hidden in fat, black clodhoppers. The womans hair was dirty brown and tied up at the back in a messy bun.
"W-Who are y-you??" She asked the odd lady. The lady gave a sickly, grandma smile and said in a very patronizing voice "I'm your new social worker, sweetie!"
NO! It couldn't be! She was not going into care! They'd have to drag her kicking and screaming! She was about to protest but she heard a familiar voice whisper in her ear. "No, you should go with them. You'll be safe. Don't worry, I'll never leave you."
She cried. The ugly lady put her arm round her. "I understand" she said, and they walked to the car.
"I'll never forget you, mum" She whispered and followed. She knew she'd be safe with her mum with her. Safe
