PRESENT TIME

Elijah kept his eyes firmly locked on with the growing fire in front of him. He watched as Madison and Chris ran through the growing waves with bags and suitcases in their hands, while Travis fell behind as he carried the body of what seemed to be his now dead ex-wife.

"Come on!" Nick shouted the three as they ran through the water, snapping Elijah from his daze. Elijah continued to grip lead pipe in his hands, ready to use it if any infected got too close. Nick continued to shout, his hands holding firmly on speedboat's controls. "Let's go, let's go!"

Madison quickly threw the suitcases into the speedboat, hopping in seconds after. Chris followed in soon after, lazily throwing his share of the bags into the speedboat and getting in.

"Hurry!" Elijah yelled to Travis as he dropped Liza's body into the boat and he slipped into the water.

"Eli..." Nick's voice trailed off from worry as he tapped Elijah on the shoulder. Elijah turned to Nick as he pointed to the water, seeing one of the infected walking closer to them, ignoring the harsh waves pushing against it. Elijah gripped the lead pipe in his hands fiercely as he waited for the infected to come closer.

When the infected finally came close, it grabbed ahold of the boat and Elijah swung the lead pipe at its head. It fell back a step from the hit, but the hit wasn't hard enough to kill the infected. With one final ounce of pure strength in him, Elijah brought the lead pipe down square that the top of the head and the infected finally dropped into the water without coming back up.

"Go!" Elijah yelled to Nick, and without a second thought, Nick revved up the speedboat and turned it towards the yacht.

Elijah watched as the high flames get smaller and the roaring sounds of the infected get quieter. He thought back to the moment his mother called him from the hospital about his father, and it brought a dropping feeling in his stomach. He remembered what she said, but mostly remembered what his response was.

"I'm coming home, mom. I'll be there no matter what."
