This is when it started…
Erica and I sat in the back seat. It was nerve racking, being new kids. This would be the first time we ever moved, I was scared. We had to leave all of our friends back in Darren. Now we had to make all new ones.
Erica sighed before stepping out of the car. She was about as nervous as I was. She clung tighter to her backpack. I took in a deep breath before stepping out to.
“Have fun “Our Aunt called out to us from inside the car. She gave us an encouraging smile before she drove away. We turned back around and stared at the building.
Huge! That’s all I can say to describe it. It’s Huge! My old school was normal size, and had about 300 kids total in the high school. We lived in a small town in the middle of the country. Not much to do and very few people. I’ve never lived in a big city before and I’ve also never had to deal with around thousand other students in the same building. My grade alone was around 200 students.
It felt like going to college instead of entering my freshman year. I followed Erica up the steps. Around us were all sorts of students talking and hanging in small groups. We passed a few girls who were wearing clothes that came straight out of Erica’s favorite magazine. They held the new iphones in their hands and one ear bud inside their ear. We also passed a few jocks in their football uniforms, a couple of cheerleaders, and then we passed my people, the band members. I was excited; I couldn’t wait to start marching band. I had signed up over the summer and had joined the drum line.
I glanced at Erica; she was looking around at everything. Her eyes were more towards the girls the ones who were wearing the labeled clothes and held the expensive phones. She pulled her dull brown jacket over shoulders. She sighed.
“Come on; let’s get to the office “I said to her. She nodded her head but not without taking one last look at the people who seemed to have more.
The office was the room that stood immediately next to the main hall we’d enter. After we entered the Main hall, we turned left and walked into the office. The Secretary sat at her desk. Her hair was orange but turning into a shade of grey. She kept small little glasses at the tip of her nose. Her eyes never once glanced from the computer as she typed.
“Excuse me “Erica cleared her throat. The Lady didn’t look up. She was transfixed with the work before her. “We need the schedules for Erica and Amelia Douglass “. The lady reached one hand out in front of her. Two cream folders were in beside the computer; she grabbed them and handed them to my older sister.
“Thanks “Erica breathed before we left the office. She handed me my folder. I pulled my schedule out.
