Can't Help But Wait
Every single day.Kwon Yuri would wake up to the sound of a couple yelling next door. They were basically like her alarm. Fluttering her eyelids open, she slightly regretted rooming next to her best friend and her lover. Her bedroom wall was thin and on the other side is her best friend’s living room. Massaging her temples, she slowly sat up from the bed.
“I told you to come home early last night! Where the hell were you?!”
“I’m sorry I was—“
“Listen to me! You better come home early tonight, alright?!”
“Okay, I—“
“Kneel to me and apologize!”There was nothing Yuri could do. Every single time, Jung Jessica would plead to her to not come over when she heard yelling. She would say it was how they express their “love”. Yuri fought the urge to run over to their apartment and knock their door down because all Jessica was telling her was lies, obvious lies. She would have if it were not for the latter pleading her with her puppy dog eyes.
Yuri did not know what Jessica saw in her current boyfriend. Every day, she would walk around mindlessly thinking about what he had that she did not have. That is right, Yuri is deeply in love with Jessica, but the latter was too busy in pleasing her boyfriend to notice Yuri’s signs.
After a quick shower of clearing her mind for the day, she dressed herself and dried her hair before exiting her apartment. She could still hear yelling and with so much hesitation, she left the hallway.
-*-*-*-*-
Yuri sat down at a local café shop near the apartment. Sitting by a window seat, she stirred her cup of coffee while looking outside the view of busy Seoul. Clanking her spoon against the rim of the cup, she surveyed her surroundings of the noisy café shop and spotted her best friend scanning through the spines of the reading books on the shelves. At least this time she did not see the worthless boyfriend of hers.
Smiling at Jessica’s pouty lips when choosing her book, she saw the latter glance over to her direction. Taking a double take, Jessica took a longer look at Yuri before smiling and walking over towards her way.
“Hey,” she greeted to which Yuri responded by nodding and smiling. “What brings you here?”
“Just coming down for coffee as usual,” said Yuri. “It’s been awhile since I’ve last seen you even though we’re like roommates.”
Jessica lightly laughed. “True. I was just caught up in things.”
Stirring her coffee once more with silence hanging around in the air, Yuri broke off the eye contact from Jessica. “How’s your boyfriend?”
Jessica’s forming smile immediately dropped. Realizing at what she had done, she forced herself to smile. “Everything is going great.”
Clutching tight at her spoon due to the lies, Yuri was basically dragging her spoon down to the bottom of her cup to where she felt the un-dissolved sugar. “Stop lying to me.”
Jessica’s eyes darted up towards Yuri who still had her eyes down at her coffee. “What?”
