I heard silence. My eyes were heavy. I felt like I couldn't move. It felt like it was like that for ages, until I heard Martyn's voice.
"Do you think she'll be alright? That taser gun did numbers on her." After that, I felt some movement around me. I decided it was time to open my eyes.
I saw a grey blurry mesh of unfocused things with a blob of green, and one of white. The mesh of objects focused into the ceiling of the nurse's office, with the nurse-bot and my brother watching over me. Seeing Martyn just made me feel comfortable, like nothing ever happened. Maybe nothing did happen. Maybe Dad was still demonstrating how an Attribute works to the eighth graders. Maybe he will come out when the bell rings just to say "Hi."
But I was ever so wrong. Martyn sat next to me on the medical bed, and rest his hand on my shoulder, with a saddened look on his face. I sat up, and looked at him worriedly.
"Dad's still in school, right?" I said, making sure what I saw was just a dream. It's got to be a nightmare. It just has to! I thought to myself. Martyn just looked at me and he shook his head no.
"I'm sorry, Alice. But Dad's been taken away to work on a government project because of his invention of Attributes. He won't be seeing us soon."
I couldn't handle what he just said to me. Dad? Taken away? because of his invention? I just can't fathom the fact. I held my head and shook it vigorously, to help understand. "No! This can't be happening! It just can't!" Martyn grabbed my shoulders and looked me in the eye. He said, "Listen! This is going to be hard to swallow, but we need to stay together. Since everyone saw what happened, the Head let us go home until we are in working condition again. Understand?" I stayed silent, and nodded.
The Head of School always was a nice person. He knew how to tell a student that they are in trouble without them getting mad, he knew that when students lose someone important, they can't work on school, and he understands. I'm glad for that.
We drove home in Martyn's like green car, listening to some music trying to cheer ourselves up, but we weren't feeling it. We couldn't quite say what happened, or anything for that matter. We turned off the radio when one of the sadder songs came on because we couldn't handle it. Both of our parents were gone, and one may never come back.
We soon got to the ten-floor apartment building. The smell of cinnamon filled our noses as we walked in. It was soon to be Holiday, and the lobby was already decorated. There were streamers of light colors hanging from the ceiling, flowers and scented candles everywhere, and even the receptionist, Catherine, is wearing the Jingle Hat.
Catherine raised her head, pushed some of her dirty blonde hair out of her face, and said jokingly, "Isn't it a little early to be let out? I mean, it is only around twelve." I widened my eyes in astonishment. It was nine when the incident happened! How long was I out? it didn't matter. I need to see why going to the lab was important.
Martyn waved his hand to Catherine. "There was... an event that happened. It's nothing, but you won't be seeing the others until the afternoon." I looked at him when he responded. There was uncertainty in his eyes but a smile on his face, and I could see why. He didn't want to accept the fact that Dad was gone, either. He didn't want to answer questions, and I am with him on that thought. I didn't either.
Catherine chuckled, knowing something was up. "Well why isn't your father back from-" Her phone rang before she could answer her question. Thank God for that. We didn't want to answer.
We soon went upstairs to our apartment. It looked like housekeeping put a little Holiday decor as a gift. We weren't the family that had too many holiday decorations. We had a few scarecrows for Halloween and a few candles, and that's basically it. I walked across the living room where Martyn plopped down, and turned on the television.
"Alice. You might want to see this." I was already opening the door to my bedroom to drop off my book bag when he called. I scuffled back to the couch and gaped in awe. It was a news report on what happened a few hours ago. The reporter started talking like it was nothing.
"And today, just a few hours ago, government agents have abducted well-known inventor, Benjamin Silverscreen, inventor of the Attributes. The group that has abducted him is a group of four highly-trained generals called the Four Best. The Four Best consists of Alpha, Delta, Demitri, and Ulysses. Pictures are still confidential, and can't be shown at this time. Here are the witnesses' reports." It cut to other classmates telling what they saw, including Jayson, Grace, and even Martyn. I couldn't take it anymore, and I shuffled to the door two doors down from my room.

A/N Hey, guys! Note, here! I'm sorry for the huge gaps in chapters. It's just school and stuff. I bet you guys understand.
On another Note, (Ha. It's a pun) I guess Martyn's a little bit of a strong guy, that can handle anything. He isn't really hurt by the incident. Well, you'll see why in a later chapter. And also there's this Greek theme in some of the names. You'll see that too.
And don't be shy, guys! I always accept feedback from you, and I try to respond! Note out!
