It was Thursday. At school. Nothing was going wrong. I was walking down the hall to only trip on my brother, Martyn, reading his plant book like always.
"Oh. Sorry, Alice. Are you ok?" He said gently, brushing my long, silvery hair. I push his hand away and pull out a stick that was caught in my hair. I hand it to him since he is Mr. Plantsman after all.
"This yours?" I say sarcastically. He never did manage to master his plant-growing Attribute. There's always a stray stick in his hair, a leaf on his green shirt, or some dirt on his jeans. The only thing on him that wasn't affected was his Attribute dog tag.
"Come to think of it, why are you at my school anyways?" I knew he was smart, but he was twenty two. He should at least be in college. Not at Atomic High. He chuckled and messed with my hair, which he knew annoyed me.
"Isn't it obvious? I took an internship with the biology teacher! Isn't this exciting?! We can be in the same class!" He was too excited, but he did miss an important factor in his plan. I roll my eyes and chuckled a small bit. "I don't take biology! I take physics. You should know this." I elbowed him playfully, and he elbowed back.
I was about to walk to my next class, when my friend Jayson ran into me, causing me to fall over. For some reason he was screaming "Oh crap! Oh crap! Oh crap! Oh crap!" As fast as he could. I knew his Attribute was speed, but he was running like he saw a ghost, or something!
"Jayson?" I said to him while getting up. "Is it National Bump Alice Day?" I was joking, and I got to my feet right before an explosion happened at the end of the long hallway.
When the dust and debris cleared up, we could see two figures. One being skinnier and the other being well built. It looked like one was pulling the other with him. Then I realized that the skinnier figure was my father, and the other was a soldier of sorts! The fact hit me straight in the face. I couldn't let this happen again. Not like Mom. I tried to run to help Dad, but Martyn held me back.
"What are you, crazy?" Martyn yelled at me, but all I could think of was not letting my only father go to what ever place the guy is taking him.
I saw the look on my father's face. The look of defeat. I never thought I would see a great scientist and inventor like him with such a grim expression. He then lifted his head, and yelled the words "I'll be alright! Go to the lab! You'll be safe there!"
Only a few seconds after Dad had said that, the soldier looked at me struggling against Martyn's arms, and pointed what looked like a taser at me. He pulled the trigger, and I felt a jolt of electricity go through my chest and down to my hands and feet.
The world then faded into black. I felt myself hit the ground, and before I blacked out, I heard Martyn scream my name. I can't believe what just happened.
