It had been 3 weeks since mom and dad died in a car crash. That day Connor and I were flying back to Minnesota for the funeral, which was the next day.
I woke up around 2:00 pm. And that was because Kian told me to get up. I would have preferred to stay in honestly. I'm not getting out much.
"Camila, Camila get up." Kian said in the sweetest voice as possible.
"No" I said harshly.
"Camila you have to get out of the house at some point, alright? I've been trying to talk you out of this sweetly but it isn't gonna work anymore. I have to give you some tough love... I mean this is actually starting to affect your health."
"Say that when your parents die, Kian" I said. I don't know were that came from. And Kian would be the last person who I would say something so brutal and mean to.
I wasn't even looking at him and I could feel the disappointment in his face.
"I'm sorry Kian. I didn't mean-" I said getting up quickly, he was just about to leave the room.
"Can you stay, please...?" I ask him shamefully. He took a couple of steps back and closed the door. He sat next to me, holding my hand.
"I never almost saw my parents. They worked all day and night. As a kid I thought they just didn't care about me and my siblings, but the people who were a parent figure to me were my grandparents. God, did I love them. They couldn't have raised me better." He said, almost tearing up.
"I can see that" I said with a smile.
"That is the first real smile I've seen in weeks from you... I missed it" He said.
"Me too. I still do" I responded.
"May they rest in peace though." We both stayed silent for a moment. He sniffled and went on:
"I can assure you, 110% that I was feeling just the way you are now." By this point his voice was breaking, but he continued:
"...and I'm sorry you had to go through the same thing I did a year ago... But you are a strong and beautiful girl, and you can get through this even if right now you think you can't. Just like I did" Now tears were running down our faces.
"How long did it take you? Like, to get over it?"
"I haven't gotten over it. I haven't moved on. I just think that my grandparents wouldn't have wanted to see me like I was. So that motivated me to move forwards instead of backwards"
"Honestly, I know my parents would do anything just to get me out of this mood, like you are doing right now."
"See?"
"Yeah...Thank you, Kian" I said, hugging his waist.
"I love you, princess" He said kissing my forehead.
"I love you too, Kian"
"Hey, so do you want breakfast or lunch? You must be hungry." He said.
"Can we go out? I'm feeling like a nice brunch"
"Nice idea, go get dressed" He said patting my lower back.My flight was that day at 5:00 pm. Kian and I stayed out all day until we had to come by to get Connor and my bags. We arrived to Minnesota around 8:00 pm and Dustin picked us up. We were the last siblings to arrive. We stayed up until 3 am talking, even though we had to be at the funeral at 7:00 am.
