Prologue
To the public, Niall's general mood seemed to suddenly change in the February of 2013, and in reality, that is exactly what happened.
The day after his bandmate Harry's birthday, he didn't smile once. This wasn't questioned very much, as everyone assumed he had probably just been having a bad day. Days later, though, it was noticed that he still hadn't smiled a genuine, happy smile since the night of the birthday, and people began to grow more curious as to why the young star seemed suddenly unhappy.
There was only a few other people in the world who knew the reason for Niall's sadness, meaning that his friends, his management, his fans, and even his fellow bandmates were oblivious to why he was so unhappy. Refusing to tell anyone or make any interaction with anyone when asked about it, and when not in the public eye, barely made any effort to communicate with anyone at all, Niall had built walls around him in a way to stay strong, even though in reality, shutting his closest friends out was probably not a good idea.
"Can I be honest?" Liam, one of Niall's bandmates had asked as himself and the other band members - excluding Niall, of course - stood in what could be described as an imperfect circle in the kitchen of Liam's house in London.
"Yeah," Harry said to the boy with a small sigh and nod of his head, "Go ahead."
Liam hesitated for a moment before saying, "I'm really - really worried. Niall.. he - he just, I can't explain it really. Well, I can. I'm just sorta afraid to admit this but... I'm, er, afraid Niall might... y'know, be... suicidal." Liam found it hard to say this, as if saying the words aloud would make the possibility of them being true increase.
The others bandmates agreed to this statement, and made a deal with each other to one by one try and get Niall back to his normal self and hopefully, in time, tell them the reason for his unhappiness.
But Niall had other ideas.
Jennifer Walker, who preferably went by Jenny or Jen, was an eighteen year old, unemployed girl who suffered of depression, not unlike Niall. Music was Jen's escape from life, and as she listened to or played her own music on her piano or guitar, she felt momentarily at peace in what she thought of as her own little world - the only place she truly felt happy, even though her world, in reality, didn't exist.
She lived a simple life, mostly spending her time at home on the Internet, or writing songs, with the exception of a daily walk to some place or other, not much interaction being made with the people she met on the way.
Neither of the two knew how Jennifer could possibly 'understand' Niall, as management had put it, but actually, in their choice of person to help Niall, they couldn't have been more right.
