Adrien's POV
"Sorry."
I flashed a grin, studying Marinette's shocked expression. She gaped at me, eyes wide, cheeks pale. She looked beautiful, even in her confused and battered state. "You...You? Chat Noir?" she whispered, shaking her head slightly. I nodded my head vigorously, my face still two inches from hers. Her breathing hitched, and then her face grew unnaturally red.
"I... I should have known," she spat. My grin faltered a bit. Her eyebrows furrowed and she growled, before that growl turned into yelling. "How could have I been so blind? You... The eyes... The attitude," she spat the last part. She glared at me, rage burning in her usually crystal blue eyes. A single, angry tear slid quickly down her cheek, and she shoved me away from her.
I landed on my back, using my elbows to prop me up. Marinette was now standing, hands clenched tight at her sides. She then pointed a finger at me, growling, "So you... You were toying with my heart the whole time? You were just messing with me?!" My smile was wiped off of my face as her words sunk in.
"No!" I said, licking my lips. "It was never like that! I- I love you, and I was just-" "SHUT IT!" Marinette shouted, her eyes icy and cold and angry. "You... You said you loved Ladybug, but you still flirted with Marinette! You kissed me! I can't believe that you- that you-" she ranted before bursting into tears, her hands over her eyes. I stared bewildered at My Lady.
Just before I could say anything, a small red creature zipped past me and flew into Marinette. "MARINETTE!" it cried in a squeaky voice. Marinette cupped the little creature in her hands, still crying. "I came as fast as I could! It was kind if hard to find you, but I managed to- why are you crying?" it asked. "Oh Tikki," is what Marinette mumbled, emotion cracking her voice. "What? Whats-" Tikki, probably a kwami, turned around and faced me.
"You," she hissed, narrowing her eyes. "I should have known. Did you know you've thrown Marinette into such stress, panic, and pain? Not to mention how you are a superhero, supposed to take care of people-" The kwami's breathing became shallow as her face paled of its red color.
"Plagg."
The kwami then zoomed to me, zipping around my body. "WHERE IS HE? WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM?" she yelled frantically. She froze as a weak voice rasped, "I'm over here, Tikki." Tikki zipped to the inside of my shirt, and then she tugged out a small white thing. Plagg, I realized.
Plagg, instead of his normal black color, was a sickly white. His usual green eyes were drained of knowing; they were wandering around like he was drunk. His little cat ears drooped. He shivered, his body racking with each breath. "So much hate, Tikki," he whispered, his voice weak. "So much..." Then my faithful kwami went into a spasm, his little body jerking around.
I did this? I thought warily. Plagg is suffering because of me? Tikki looked at Plagg, horrified, before she turned to me, anger burning in her little blue eyes. "DON'T YOU KNOW KWAMIS CAN'T HANDLE THAT STUFF?" she yelled at me, little tears coming out of her eyes. I glanced at Marinette, who was looking at Plagg with misty eyes. I turned to back to Tikki. She took a shaky breath. "Kwamis, when absorbed into a Miraculous, cannot deal with emotions like hate and insurmountable anger. Slowly, those type of emotions kill us," she explained, eyes still cold.
She gestured to Plagg, who had stopped shaking violently and was now breathing steadily. "He's nearly dead. Another hour, and he would be gone," she said, more kwami tears dripping out of her eyes. Tikki then flew over to Plagg and cradled him against her small chest. She shook him gently, whispering, "Plagg? Plagg, please look at me. You're okay now."
I looked at Marinette, and she stared at me with watery eyes. Her face was twisted with fear, her cheeks pale and her brow lined with sweat. She was still crying, the moonlight casting a faint glow on her tears.
I did this. I hurt her. I hurt other people. I... I'm a monster. How could I do that? Why did I do it? Because I was angry? Because I was hurt? I... I really am a monster. I don't deserve to be here. I should go away. Someone should take me away. I shouldn't be here! I'm going to hurt someone else!
"Adrien?" Marinette asked, her voice shaky. I stared at her eyes, the ones that had twisted me into so many emotions, pulling me deeper and deeper into love.
But there was only one emotion inside of me.
An emotion I needed to let out.
"Adrien?" she asked again, her voice more fearful. Her breathing was shallow.
I screamed.

Marinette's POV
Adrien stared at me, eyes wide, as I called his name. He seemed to be lost in thought. "Adrien?" I called again, my voice laced with fear. He wasn't responding. The orange glow had faded from his eyes, leaving them back to be a torutred emerald green. I moistened my lips, about to call him again, when the most startling thing happened.
He screamed.
The most earsplitting, guttural scream I have ever heard. He threw his head back, his eyes closed tight, and screamed. The sound pierced the air, a shrill note interrupting the heavy blanket of silence of the night. The sound echoed from his stomach, and out into the air, high-pitched and traumatizing. It was laced with sadness, and anger, and worry, but their was one main emotion behind it;
Horror.
Adrien's scream slowly died in his throat, the echo still looming in the air. The stars glimmered faintly, casting a dim light on him. Adrien slumped to the ground, and sobbed. He curled up in a ball, sobbing his heart out. My heart wrenched, and I made a split-second decision. I ran forwards, sliding on my knees as I approached him he looked at me and screeched, scuffling backward.
"NO!" he yelled, scuttling backwards with wide, crazy eyes. "Don't come any closer! I- I might hurt you." His was choking on fear. The fear, of himself. I crawled towards him and he sank back down to the roof, cradling his knees to his chest. I scooped him up in my arms, wiping the sweat from his brow. He cried softly, and soon enough I was crying too.
"No more screaming..." I mumbled softly.
"No more," he whispered back, his breaths becoming more controlled, his eyes staring into mine.
"No more," I agreed, gazing at the night sky.
"No more."
