Derek's pov.
I'm currently looking for Jeremy to discuss his claim of being lycan. But he's nowhere to be found, the only place I haven't looked is the one place I hope he's not. Slowly I open Phoenix's door and poke my head in. Looking to the bed I see her sound asleep hugging her brothers jacket to her chest. I bite my lip to contain my growl as I watch Jeremy tuck the blanket around Phoenix, and go around the room picking the pups up one by one using the scruff of they're necks. I push the door open wider as he quickly ducks through, I pull the door closed quietly and turn only to see Jeremy's back going towards the living room. As I enter the room Jeremy is gently placing the last pup in a large puppy pen.
"Why'd you bring the pups out here?" I say thinking about how ticked Phoenix will be.
"Well if you would have actually looked her over instead of thinking about your plan to just sweep her up, you would've noticed the huge bags under her eyes," he calls over his shoulder while playing with one of the pups.
"I asked when was the last time she legitimately slept and her response was 'the night before I shifted' so for two years my sister didn't sleep to keep her kids safe. Two years she felt like she had no one, in my case she understands I had no choice, but the day she found out she was pregnant her wolves instincts kicked in. To her wolf the one who was supposed to protect her and there young, love them for eternity abandoned them, her wolf took that as you being weak, so her logic is 'if mate is weak no one else can protect me or my pups'. For two years caring for her kids was her entire life, and for the first few months I think her wolf held on to that hope in the back of her mind that you would come to the rescue. Eventually her wolf killed that little glimmer because a mother wolf will shift into a mindset where they're pups are the only thing that matter in the world. If for one second you would have stopped and asked your wolf about your idea he could've told you Phoenix was pregnant, I know for a fact her wolf told yours. And as for bringing the pups out here, they kept trying to get her up to play." He says never once taking his eyes off the pups.
"Why should I listen to a lecture about mates from a guy who couldn't keep his from rejecting him," I say matter-o-factly. Suddenly I'm being slammed into the wall by my throat. I look at Jeremy and meet the black eyes of a wolf.
"You litt-," Jeremy is suddenly cut off. I look down to notice Phoenix with her arms wrapped around her brother. As his grip loosens Phoenix begins walking him backwards towards the couch. She plops down Indian style at one end of the couch patting her lap. Jeremy's wolf whimpers before laying down putting his head on her lap. Phoenix begins rubbing patterns on his head humming, Jeremy eventually falls asleep and Phoenix gently replaces herself with a pillow. She quietly walks towards the kitchen motioning for me to follow.
