*~*~*
All I wanted was to eat my breakfast. That's all I asked for. Of course, I also asked for a week off as well as all A's but apparently that can't happen either, so I suppose I should've expected this to happen.
"Ms. Dumbledore," McGonagall said, coming up to me.
"Yeah?"
"Your father would like to meet with you,"
I groaned and got up, staring longingly at my half eaten breakfast.
"Now," McGonagall warned.
I sighed and trudged to Dumbledore's office, wondering why he would need me.
"Hello, Gracelyn," He said formally.
I immediately knew this wasn't some father daughter time. He meant business, and honestly, that kinda scared me.
"Hello," I said quietly, sitting down in front of him.
"Do you know why you're here?"
"No," I murmured.
He looked curiously at me. "Really? I thought you would have been thinking about it,"
"Thinking about what?"
His face suddenly became dead serious as he looked me in the eye, leaning down slightly.
"Gracie, it's time,"
Suddenly, memories of four months ago came back to mind. I found myself on the floor, nearly hyperventilating and close to tears.
"I can't! I can't! They- they need me," I said, raising my voice as I writhed on the floor.
Dumbledore got up quickly and pulled me up, hugging me as I sobbed into his shoulder.
"I don't want to die!"
"It must happen," He said quietly, "you're lucky enough that he let you go that one time. I don't think he'll do it again,"
That just made me sob louder while Dumbledore looked like he knew he had made a mistake in saying that in this time.
"I'm sorry, but it is your destiny."
"I've stayed this long, maybe I can stay alive just a bit longer?"
He suddenly appeared furious as he pulled away from the hug.
"And then what? Have to live, always on guard? Never knowing when you'll die and have to leave your friends, without even a warning? Gracie, that is no way to live!"
"Maybe not," I said angrily, voice quivering only slightly, "but it is a way to survive."
"Gracie, I would never let you live, or survive, like that. It's terrible and it's absolutely heartbreaking,"
"You wouldn't know. If you were in my position you'd be absolutely desperate too,"
"Maybe I would. But I would be sensible enough to know when it was my time. After all, none are immortal,"
"If you could be immortal, would you take it?"
He gave me a sad smile.
"Oh, Gracelyn. I would like to think that, in a situation like that, I'd be smart enough to say no. But the truth is, most, including me, would most likely say yes, with the expectation of absolutely nothing but exploration ahead of me. Of course, that could happen, but being immortal doesn't actually do anything. You still have to work. You still have to pay rent. And, the world is also eventually going to end some day, and I'd hate to be there, floating around, when it happened. I would truly be stuck in my own mind, slowly going crazy,"
"Wow," I whispered. He chuckled and sat back down in his chair.
"It's up to you, Gracie. If you want to try and defy Death even more than you already have, then be my guest. But remember, if you end up dead, or come running back to me, regretting everything, I can't say for sure if I'll be there one hundred percent,"
I nodded solemnly and left, not even bothering to see if he wanted to say anything else. I was absolutely devastated. I had two lose-lose choices right now. I could either die knowing Dumbledore was happy with my decision and leave my friends absolutely heartbroken, but with a warning of what was about to happen, or I could try and take a risk to defy Death, even if it would kill me unexpectedly and my friends would be left with no warning, and Dumbledore would be unhappy with my decision.
Either way, I either die or have no one on my side to speak to anymore.
I sighed and made my way to the Hufflepuff Common Room (yes, I decided Ravenclaw was getting boring, so I moved to Hufflepuff) and rethought my decisions. The second option had a chance of me being able to live more, even if just for a while, but then again I could just die with no warning whatsoever to anyone. Or, I could just let it happen and die naturally, allowing my friends to know what happened and know that I died in peace.
I think it's obvious which one I chose.
