Chapter 1
"April, remember to use your umbrella if it starts raining, we don't want you soaking wet!"
"Yea mom, I got it! See ya!"
I was on my way to meet some of my friends at the movies. We were going to see Toy Story 3 again, we really enjoyed it the first hundred times. There were 6 of us going: May, June, Elina, Dean, Damian, and myself. Me and my two best friends together are April, May, and June. We really like that, it makes us feel like we all belong together. Which we do.
When I got there, I was out of breath from walking, but it was worth it. Elina had never came with us to the movies because her parents didn't want her walking by herself until she was 13. And of course her mom refused to drive her. Today was her 13th birthday and we were all celebrating with Toy Story. Because that's what friends do.
"April, hey!" I turned around to see Elina, Dean, and May standing there.
"Hey guys!" I ran over and pulled them into a hug. "Happy birthday Elina!!!!!"
"April, that's about the hundreth time you've wished my a happy birthday today!" She giggled hugging me back.
Dean tore himself free of the hug and asked, "Where are June and Damian?" June and Damian were twins and were always together no matter what. They even asked the school for the same schedule for the rest of their school life. That takes dedication.
"Hmm, I dunno. I'll call June and see," I said, pulling out my phone. As if on cue, I saw June and Damian running towards us. "Oh, hey guys, you're here! I was just about to call you," I put my phone away and skipped over to hug them.
"ALRIGHT, MINIONS, LET US WATCH TOY STORY 3," Damian shouted and we all ran in the theater to have the best Friday night ever.
We walked out of the theater, some of us crying, some of us laughing. May, June, and I crying because of the movie. Elina and Damian laughing at us crying. Dean pretending not to cry. What a lovely group of friends I have.
Just then, I felt a drop of rain on my nose. "Oh no, it's about to start raining," I said sadly, "I'm gonna have to walk home in it. Ughhhhh."
With each drop the rain got more and more intense and I could tell it was going to turn out to be a storm complete with thunder and lightning.
"This really sucks, guys. I told my mom I wouldn't need a ride home because I was walking home with June and Damian," Dean said.
"I'll call my mom and see if she can come get us. I could get her to drop you guys off at your houses and we won't have to walk in the storm," I took out my phone and dialed my mom's number.
"Hello?"
"Hey mom. There's a storm here, do you think you could come pick us up?"
"I'm sorry honey, but I can't. Liam won't stop crying and I'm trying to get him to sleep. Maybe you could try to get a ride from someone else." Liam was my 5 month old brother. He loved to cry and take all the energy out of my mom.
"Kay mom. Bye."
"Bye sweety. Try calling Dad if you can't get a ride from someone else. Love you.
"Love you too, mom." I hung up and turned tell the others.
"She's busy with Liam. Can't pick us up. Did any of you bring your phone?"
Everyone shook their head except for May.
"Really? No one but May? WHY?! WHY DO YOU DO THESE THINGS TO ME?!" I shouted in mock horror.
"I'M SO SORRY APRIL, MY LOVE. I SHOULD'VE BROUGHT IT FOR YOU," Damian shouted back, putting his hand over his heart.
"IT'S OKAY, LOVE. I'LL FIGHT THROUGH THE PAIN," I started fake crying and put my hand on his shoulder.
Damian jumped backwards brushing off his shoulder. "EWWWWWW GIRL COOTIES, DON'T TOUCH ME." We all burst out laughing and for a few seconds, we forgot all about our little problem. We all just wanted to have fun like always. We weren't used to having to deal with serious stuff like getting home safely.
"Okay," Elina said, "May, can you have your mom come pick us up?"
"I can try," said May, taking her phone out of her pocket and turning it on. We continued to talk while she was turning on her phone until she got a worried expression on her face. "Oh no, that's not good."
"What's wrong?" Dean asked.
"My phone just died."
I took out mine and tried calling my dad. I couldn't reach him, he had his phone turned off. I had forgotten all about the meeting he had tonight.
"We're screwed, my dad's at a meeting.
"I guess the only option is to walk home, I guess," Damian said.
"Okay," said June, "How many umbrellas do we have? Damian and I each have one, anybody else?"
"I have one," I said.
"I've got one," said Elina.
"Okay, so 4 umbrellas for 6 people. I think we should be okay," June said.
"Elina and May should probably come over to my house since I live closer," I said, and they both nodded.
"And I'll go home with June and Damian, as planned," Dean said.
We said our goodbyes and started walking home. Lucky for us, the lightning had stopped, but the rain was still coming down as hard as ever. It almost felt like it would be raining for eternity.

I hope you enjoyed reading! The rest of the story will take place 3 years later. Technically this is just a prologue, but I always hate when the number of parts in the story isn't the same as the number of chapters. Yes I have problems. Goodbye!
