"I mean, we need a promotion sometime in the near future. We can't be stuck in the dungeons forev-" Travis and Conner spotted Luke approach Thalia's cell. They watched.
"Luke-" he held up a hand, silencing her.
"Nico had the Gardner twins tell me." she gave him an apologetic look. "You know you could've told me." she looked down.
"I guess I just overreacted. I just remembered what my dad did to my mom-"
"I'm not your dad." she started to cry. He unlocked the cell and went in, wrapping his arms around her.
"I know, I just freaked out."
"Shhh. It's okay. I've got you now." They sat there for a minute. "So when do I get to meet her?" Thalia smiled.
"I-" The castle rumbled. A guard come down the stairs.
"Captain, the Romans have attacked!" Luke leapt up.
"Follow me," he said, taking her hand. "I'll bring you somewhere safe."
"What about you?" he turned to her.
"Thalia, I'm a captain, I have to fight with my soldiers." Tears formed in her eyes, and she leaned forward too kiss him. He kissed her back.
"Come back alive," she begged.
"No promises," he replied grimly.
