Archers of the Multiverse- Book One

Chapter 2- Green Arrow

The two archers came across a river, but it wasn't water flowing through the rocky stream. It was blood.

"This sure is a fantastic place." Clint commented, bemused.

Oliver trudged on in silence. He had no idea where they should even go. How were they going to hunt enemies if they didn't know where the enemies were?

"Hey, Ollie. Lemme ask you something." Clint piped up.

"It's Oliver." he replied gruffly.

"Okay, 'OLIVER'" Clint mocked the hostile tone. "How many baddies do you think we actually have to fight?"

"Well," Oliver began. "The hood said we had to be the last left standing, and I'm assuming we won't be done after FIVE villains, so my best estimate: A lot."

"Oh. That's comforting." Clint commented.

They travelled in utter silence for the next half hour, listening for any signs of life. Finally, as they entered a dense forest, Oliver caught some movement up in the trees from his peripheral vision.

"Clint." Oliver whispered, pointing at the shadowed object."

"Shit." Clint whispered. "Yep, I know this guy."

"Well please, DO enlighten me," Oliver said impatiently. 

The figure had a buff upper body, and was completely covered in black. It's eyes were pure white and ran down the length of it's face. When the creature opened it's mouth, Oliver got a glimpse at sharp, jagged teeth, and a long tongue.

"His name is Venom." Clint said.

They decided to use stealth on this takedown. Each archer selected their own arrow that was best for the situation. Clint pulled out his selected arrow, and Oliver chose a knockout gas arrow.

"Okay, I'm going to-" Oliver started, before being interjected by Clint's sudden chain of command.

"Oliver, what arrow do you have?" Clint asked, hurriedly.

"Uh... knockout gas." Oliver said.

"Okay. I want you to shoot Venom with that arrow. Here's a forewarning. The arrow probably won't work and he will probably be super pissed. But that's okay. Trust me." Clint ended his instruction with a slight grin before leaping out of sight.

"Clint?!" Oliver hissed.

Suddenly, Venom turned his head towards where Oliver had spoken. Oliver himself quickly ducked into the foliage. With his green suit, he was able to camoflauge in to forests quite well.

Venom jumped from the tree with a boom that shook the ground, and darted over near Oliver's area.

'Whelp, now or never' Oliver thought. 'God, Clint, I hope you know what you're doing.'

Oliver revealed his position by drawing back his bow and letting the knockout arrow fly, straight in to the Venom's mouth. As Clint said, it pissed him off, but it did slow him down a little. Venom sprinted towards Oliver, black claws outstretched. Oliver wanted to yell for Clint, but didn't want to give away the leverage of Clint being hidden. Oliver reached back to grab an arrow from his quiver, but then tripped over a tree root. He collapsed on to the ground.

Suddenly, Venom was looming over him, mouth watering.

"HEY! TALL, DARK, AND HANDSOME!" Clint yelled from about 50 yards away. "LET GO OF THE GREEN MAN AND FIGHT ME, YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD HAWKER MAN!"

Venom made a sound that was appalling, but Oliver made out two words.

"Not Spidey?"

Suddenly, Venom snatched Green Arrow up, and held him for Clint to see.

"Yeah, yeah. I got the message. Stop fighting or the greenie dies, blah blah blah."

"Clint!" Oliver said, worriedly.

'Relax buddy!" Clint said as he drew back his bow, with a nocked arrow.

'It'll never get here in time.' Oliver said. He then realised this was it for him. Clint's stupidity would be his doom.

Clint shot the arrow.

It missed Venom by a mile.

Venom used the miss to his advantage, and turned to complete the kill, but before Oliver could fight it, Venom collapsed. Oliver rolled out from under the towering body that was falling towards him.

When he stood up, he noticed Clint's arrow, stuck in the back of Venom's head, the weakest point.

Clint had that stupid, boyish grin as he said, "Boomerang arrow! It comes back to you in the end."
