When I stepped outside once more into the blinding sunlight, I was hit with just how far away from home I really was. Sure, I didn't have any friends back home, I didn't have a job yet, and I spent most of my time alone, but the surroundings were just so different. I missed my charger, and longed to be back home in my own space where I had my own things. I looked down at the jumbled mess I was holding. It was a start, if nothing else. This is where I would make my home, and my life. I promised myself.
Not really sure where to go, I followed the dwellings gazing up at the rocks, in awe that they inhabited such a prized piece of my old education back in Congress.
Continuing to walk and attempting to memorize certain places for further reference, I completely lost myself in my thoughts...until I ran over someone.
"Oof!" they complained under my weight.
I looked down into purple eyes. You have got to be kidding me. At least it was someone I knew.
"Purple." I commanded his attention, rising to my feet. "Where's Rae?"
"Well hello to you, too." He mocked me, standing to his feet. "How should I know? She's probably training, running or torturing Isaac." He rolled his eyes. "But I was actually looking for you."
"Me?" I asked incredulously. "Why?"
"Because daddy dearest wants me to get you a dwelling before you meet the elders." He told me as though it were completely normal to just be plopped into a random community and forced to just...survive.
"Um, okay, but what about a charger? I'll die if I don't charge." I hadn't thought of all the things that were so vital to my survival but living with humans would vanish.
"We can talk about that when we get there." He assured me, "But do you have a preference of where you want to be?" He asked.
I thought for a second. "Up high. And around Rae or Isaac or even you." I looked back at him, slightly ashamed by my need to be near him due to my lack of socialization.
"I know just the place." He told me with a kind smile.
I felt relief course through me. As we walked, neither one of us said much other than my occasional question or his explanation or pointing out a potentially useful spot.
Then, all of a sudden, he started to scale the wall. It took my eyes a second or two to adjust a little bit, but once they did I was right behind him.
"Didn't think you could lose me that easily, did you?" I asked casually.
"How?" He wheezed out, "How can you talk?"
"You're talking." I said pointedly.
"Y-y-y-yeah," He stammered, "but...it's like it's not e-e-even hard." He finished sucking air in rapidly.
"This isn't hard." I said completely confused.
"Even the, the best of u-us have trou-ble getting up t-t-this wall."
He made the final hoist to be able to stand in the cave. Then, making sure he was stable, lowered his hand down to me to help pull me up.
"Thanks," I said grabbing ahold of his hand, "But I really didn't need it." I smirked at him.
He was still attempting to regain his breath. I stood there watching him, doubled over for about thirty seconds.
"Do I need to go get someone? Or are you good?" I asked, slightly frightened by this whole ordeal.
