Nathan Harper:

11 July 2011

Crunch. The explosion of noises that came crashing down on me at once. Sirens. Lots of sirens. The torturous pain of shattered fragments of glass, wedged into the palm of my right hand. The excruciating agony I felt behind my eyelids. Memories of the night came flashing through my mind, too fast for me to handle.

Darkness. Complete and utter darkness surrounding me. Booming voices shouting turned into hushed murmurs. My aching eyes struggled to open as a wave of tiredness hit me. Once my eyes were open, I blinked, yet I saw nothing. I screamed but my body felt weak and paralysed. "Max!" I cried. No response. I was afraid, never before had I felt so frightened. I could hear my heart beating frantically inside my chest. "Max!" I tried again. No answer.

It started to feel like a dream. The numbing started at the tips of my toes travelling through to my knees, then eventually through my whole body. The wicked sense of terror, finally taking control. I could feel myself slowly drifting off into nothingness.
