Clarkson's P.O.V
I was handed paperwork. Pictures of the now dead bodies. The one thing I wanted to know, why was this so hard to believe. She killed two kids. What held her back from killing her own family.
I opened the door, holding the folder in my hand. I looked at her as she seemed preoccupied. She looked as though she questioned something. I only pulled out the chair to the table and sat down. Looking at her, I cleared my voice.
She looked up at me. "Tell me why I'm here."
"Don't you know?" I studied her expressions.
"I want to see if you know." She only glared.
"You are a suspect. You killed two boys. That is known. You admitted it-"
"I didn't say it right out." She looked at me, hurt.
"You never went against it." I made that known.
"I'm just saying. Don't jump to conclusions." She frowned.
I paused a moment before continuing. "Fine." I began to open the folder. I took a moment to glance at the young girl. Tear free eyes. I wanted to see if that changed. I moved my hand away from the folder. "No." I looked at her, then sliding it to her. "I want you to open it."
She hesitated. She placed her hand on the folder. I noticed a shiver run through her body. She pulled back the only thing keeping her away from the pictures. She pulled out the photo. Tears welled up and I felt pain myself.
"No." Tears were now running down her pale skin. "No. No. No."
She was either really good at acting or she hadn't an idea what really lay under that folder.
"You are a suspect for a couple of reasons." I began. "You hadn't been home during the time of her death." I scanned her. She looked afraid. Vulnerable. In different ways then an average criminal. She looked as of a victim. That's something I couldn't deny.
I, to be honest didn't think she did it for those main reasons people keep going off of. Time. She left after her aunt had and didn't return until it was discovered. That my seem suspicious, though that could just be a coincidence. I've over heard three of my coworkers say that she may have killed her mother and framed her father. Even though, there is proof he laid a hand on that woman and that she attempted suicide. Either way he was bound to get thrown behind bars.
"I." She paused. "Um." She began tapping her fingers along the rim of the table. "I went for a walk. I needed some air and I thought, since she had left, it would be a good time."
"What did you do during that walk?" I pressed.
"I stopped on a corner." Her expression changed to furious. "I saw a group. They laid a hand on me."
"And, as said you beat him with a rock." I thought back to what Dominic had admitted. I talked with someone outside the door about a couple of things. That I could start the investigation based off of what was previously discussed. They filled me in on those things.
"Yes." She choked. Plenty of tears came down. Her face was redder by the moment.
"Now he's dead. You ruptured his skull and broke his nose." I informed her.
Both of the murdered boy's bodies remained in the morge. The boys that got hit by a rock's name was Daniel. The other's name was Henry. Daniel's nose was bruised and swollen making the sight even worse. Henry was bloody looking slightly less natural, if possible.
"That boy. The one I killed with a steak knife. He came back to avenge. Instead he took pleasure for his own good." She choked once more.
"I see." I realized she seemed a definite victim. "I need you to tell me. Did you kill your aunt?" I waited for a response. She looked as though she were going to scream in protest. Instead her eyebrows went up and she paused. "No. No I did not kill the only person I had in this world."
She seemed to murmur something. I only watched curiously. "You don't have any other relatives?"
She shook her head. "No. At least none that I know of."
"Would you like us to look further into your family for anyone near or present?" I offered.
She only shook her head again. "I'm fine. I might as well start making a living on my own." She paused. "That's if I don't get into jail."
I felt my heart jolt and I felt angry at my own self. I had started to feel guilty for her, forgetting consequences. I gave in to her story. I looked at her a moment.
"Well. We don't know for sure of that yet." I reached for the folder. "Anything else before we finish?"
"I-" She thought a moment. "I may not have family but I do have a friend."
I nodded and slid the folder back to me. "Who would that be?"
"Dominic." She looked down, turning red. Tears still stained her face, though she didn't seem to focus on that.
"Oh. I see. I can ask if you could speak with him." I offered. "Would that be okay?"
She nodded. "Yes."
"Okay. I will try to arrange that. You may stay here for now." I stood, pushing in the chair. I made my way to the door trying to figure out, how in the world I was going to defend this girl.
