*SHERLOCK’S POV*

While Watson asks the man questions, I take in the facts. Ratty shoes, unwashed and unbrushed hair, trench coat with a few holes in it and an oil streak on his cheek.

Obviously a hard worker with little car of his appearance.

Soon I find myself seated with John and Doctor in an unfamiliar place.

“Why are we here with him?” I ask John as Doctor wanders around and talking randomly with other diners.

“What?” I see the familiar anger appear on John’s face. “You followed him!”

“Yes I know that, but why haven’t we left yet?”

John just shakes his head and rubs his face in his hands.

“You’re annoyed with me.”

“You have this knack of stating the obvious.”

I’m about to say something back when the Doctor sits down next to John and leans back.

“I’m waiting for my companion. I had to leave her with her mum Jackie. I hate family moments and it was getting sloppy there.”

“What’s your companion for?” I ask. Probably he means a girlfriend (of boyfriend). He might be a tourist.

“Travelling.”

Oh, yes. Travelling companions.

“Are you on one of your travels now?”

“Sort of. Like I said, there’s a bit of a hold up now. Family’s… Ugh.”

I itch to ask more questions but John shoots me a face, a warning. I could ignore him, but I would rather him be happy with me than mad.

He continues to yabber on even as our food arrives. I turn down a main meal, but settle with a cup of wine.

“You know,” the man says around his food. “You’d think you’d find someone named Alonso in a French diner.”

“Not really,” I point out. “We’re in the UK. It may be a French diner, but it’s full of tourists.”

“Hmmm…” he thinks. “I think I’ll travel to France next with Rose. Maybe finally the lucky stars will shine on me and I’ll finally meet someone named Alonso.”

John shakes his head with annoyance, which I take as a sign that he’s about had it and we should leave.

“Well,” I stand up. “Nice to meet you Doctor. I hope you have a good time travelling to France and good luck on meeting an Alonso, but just a suggestion, I’d wipe the grease of your face and wash and brush your hair because the French are very clean.” I turn to face John. “Come along John. I’m bored again.”

We leave the diner and the Doctor.
