*this chapter lines up with the first part of chapter four in Can You Hear Me?*
Sans sat on the worn, orange couch, staring at the screen with zoned out disinterest. Papyrus and Undyne were wailing away on the karaoke machine, the screen lit up with the lyrics to the song and a video of the original artist mouthing the words silently. He was pretty sure her name was (something similar to (y/n)) or something like that. Papyrus had been going off about her for months, always pestering him to buy her newest CD or something. Luckily Mettaton, who was sitting on the couch at Sans feet, was busy doing something or other on his phone. Probably work. After Frisk had broken the barrier a year and a half ago, Mettaton's career exploded on the surface, and he because kind of a spokesperson for the monsters, other than Asgore and Frisk that is. Currently, Frisk was clapping along to the beat of the song, rocking back and forth to her "favourite" musicians song played, sitting between the armrest of the recliner she and Toriel shared, and the motherly goat herself. Frisk was actually the one who introduced Papyrus to the singer, and after that Papryus got as obsessed with her music as he had been with Mettaton's a few months back (and still was, actually.)
It wasn't as if Sans wasn't having fun, oh no, he just wasn't that into karaoke. Never had been really. Which is why he couldn't remember the singers name. Not really that important, in his opinion, anyway. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched as Mettaton snapped a picture of himself facing the TV, clearly trying to get Papyrus and Undyne in the background. Sans couldn't help but wonder why, but dismissed it as just a random picture of himself. The flamboyant robot was always snapping pictures of himself. Posting it on some human social media site or something for his fans, or whatever.
The song ended a second later, and Papyrus happily asked anyone else if they wanted to sing. The entire room chorused a no thanks, and Papyrus shrugged, happy to sing another round with Undyne. Then she announced, "ARG! Papyrus you're singing it all wrong!"
"I AM NOT!" Papyrus quickly defended himself, pausing the song so he didn't miss a line.
"YES, you ARE!" She challenged.
"I THINK I'D KNOW IF I WAS SINGING IT WRONG!" He defended proudly. Sans couldn't help but roll his eyes, hiding a grin. This always seemed to happen between the two of them. They'd get along great for the first few hours, then they'd eventually disagree on something and end up arguing until...
"This is getting NO WHERE! I see only one way to settle this! Like real men!"
"i thought you were a girl?" Sans couldn't help but mention, which made Frisk nod in agreement and giggle silently. Undyne shot him a warning glare. "sorry, fish-man-girl."
Undyne flipped him off, and he responded with a laugh. "Undyne," Toriel quickly scolded, sending her a look. Undyne just waved her off, and turned her attention back to Papyrus, who was still fuming from her rude interruption.
"I challenge you to a duel! A sing off!"
"I ACCEPT YOUR CHALLENGE! BUT I SHOULD WARN YOU, THE GREAT PAPYRUS WON'T GO DOWN EASILY!"
"Bring it, punk!"
And that's how the singing competition started. Really there was only two competitors, while the rest of them acted as judges. Well, everyone but Sans. He promptly zoned out again, not really wanting to listen to his brother and Undyne belt out the lyrics to their favourite songs, but staying out of courtesy and not to offend his sensitive younger brother. Also he doubted Frisk would let him leave peacefully. He was brought back from his wandering thoughts when Mettaton's phone began to insistently ring. The robot didn't even look at the caller ID before answering. "Mettaton here." He purred. Sans couldn't help but roll his eyes at the robots tone. There was a pause, clearly with the other person answering, before Mettaton spoke again. "(y/n)! Darling! To what do I owe the pleasure? Jealous of all the fun I'm having?" Wow, Sans really disliked the flirtatious tone he was using. It was the same tone he used on Papyrus, which he usually interrupted as soon as he noticed. But, since Sans didn't know who he was talking too he couldn't well smack the robot up the head, could he?
