Two weeks later

I watch as my mom is taken back to the hospital, she was in such of a bad state I'm not sure why she came back. I wish she would've gone back earlier, anyways the footsteps that I continued to hear suddenly stopped a few days ago. I'm not sure why but I'm glad they did. I go away from the window when I can't see the car anymore and I knew my dad would leave me alone at the house for a few days, it's not like he hasn't done it before. At least I will get some peace and quiet for once instead of hear my drunk dad yell at my mom. He seems to do it more and more now. I went to the fridge and grabbed a soda.

"Amanda!" I heard a kind voice yell behind me making me jump and almost drop my soda. It was my 14-year-old stepsister.

"Sam! Don't do that you scared the shi-... you scared me," I said as I opened my soda and took a few sips. "What are you even doing here? Aren't your suppose to be with Dad and going to the hospital?"

"Yes and no, he told me to stay here with you! and I thought... well wouldn't this be a good time to really get to know each other?" She asked looking at me with pleading eyes. "I was hoping to get closer to you and be more than just stepsisters." She said looking to the ground. When my dad got remarried and my stepmother (even though I don't call her that) started to get sick he began to drink more, he got angry with her since my mother got a divorce. I guess drinking was the only way for him to feel better. I looked at my stepsister and thought for a few seconds.

"Sure, why not" I finally replied going and sitting down with her.

A few hours later

I looked at the time on my phone,

1:00 AM

I sighed in relief that Sam had fallen asleep a while ago. We had gone into so much detail, she hugged me and didn't let go. It didn't bother me, I was actually glad someone would be happy to see me. I eventually wrapped my arm around her and turned the TV on and put on one of her favorite shows, mysteries at the museum. Within an hour she was passed out and I could tell she was tired and soon I had too, good thing it was a Friday or we would've been later for school the next day if it wasn't.

The next morning

I woke up and my sister was still asleep, I'm usually the one to wake up early anyways. I looked at the time

9:30 AM

Well it's not too early, but it's not late either. I slipped out of the couch and Sam didn't notice thankfully. I went into the kitchen and began cooking breakfast for the both us. A little while later when I had begun cooking bacon she woke up and I could hear her stretching. I laughed as I waited for her to smell what I was making

3....2....1

She raced up and ran over to me while yelling, "I smell bacon! Are we having bacon?!" I laughed and nodded messing with her hair.

"Calm down you'll get some when I get the first piece done." I smiled and turned and finished cooking.

2 hours later

"Why can't I go with you?" Sam as I stepped outside and I turned around and looked at her while holding a backpack close to me.

"Because I'm going to see something and I don't want you to end up getting hurt." I said simply. I knew she'd want to go but I needed her to stay behind in case Dad came home and he would kill both of us if he got home and no one was there.

"Awwww...ok I'll stay, but you've gotta call when you're heading back!" She demanded

I shook my head "Alright fine, I'll call when I'm headed back. Remember, don't answer the door while I'm gone ok?"

"Got it." She smiled and hugged me, and with that, I left to go on my hike.
