I contemplated how I should begin this piece. Yes, this is to be collection of literature in which I've both written and collected throughout my lifetime so far on this Earth. It's also supposed to indicate my story - how I've developed as a writer and changed as an individual. I mean, there is an evident difference between babyhood and young adulthood; I haven't experienced too much but I'm much less naive than I was as an infant, sucking aimlessly on my salty thumb and sleeping most of my day away. Therefore, at the end of the day, over the course of the week, I fell asleep  to this question: "How am I to initially present myself to the reader?"

So I decided, rather than starting this collection with an amateur piece I probably wrote down without thought just so I could rush onto the playground,  to pick not a piece that I wrote, but something I'd asked my mom to write for me. You see, I once had an idea to keep a file named "Brigid's Folder." My mom would write it whenever she wanted and muse over the memories she was most fond of. And in conclusion, one day most likely well after I've moved out of the house and achieved a salary, I could reread everything. In retrospect, it was a pretty good idea, better than a silly photo album in my opinion, because there's true emotion in any writing; a picture can be deceiving sometimes. Nonetheless, I'm disappointed that the project did not carry on for very long, being my mom was much too busy to cooperate, not even monthly; but it depicts what type of world I was born into - well, the elated version of the world anyways. I was born into a world full of happiness. From my youth, I recall religion and faith and princesses and tilting my head to the side a lot whenever someone called me beautiful, and I love this first piece because it reminds me of it all.

Thus, I begin this story with this narrative. Dear Reader,

This is my story told through different pieces of literature. I give you permission to invade a bit of my privacy and read snippets that outline my life. Enjoy, or don't. It's your choice really.

"Brigid was due to be born on August 21, but I guess she just wanted to start life early. She was born on July 28, 3 and 1/2 weeks early. The funny thing is I knew that by all the kicking she was doing. It must have been her way of saying "Get Ready World!" So, at 1:00 am on July 28th, I woke up and knew it was time to go to the hospital. So, daddy and I drove to the hospital quickly where the doctor was waiting for us. At 5:20 am, Brigid was born. At first things were a little quiet, but all of sudden... WAIT!!! WAIT!!! She began to cry and loud. Her hair was dark brown like mine and I thought to myself, "will she look like me, too?" I spoke to her across the room, welcoming her into the world. Daddy just watched in amazement that she was our baby. We were so excited. I thanked God she was healthy. It was a moment that one never forgets.

We stayed in the hospital for five days. Her first visitors were her Tata and Papa, my mother and father. She slept like an angel in the maternity ward. When I held her, I spoke softly into her ear. She knew it was a voice she had heard for over 9 months. She loved to be held and cuddled.

Her first stuffed animal was a big Winnie the Pooh. It was so big I think he scared her. So she got a soft, cushy baby girl doll instead.

She came home on her 5th day of life. Your room was all ready for her. She slept in her bassinet all in white, it was where I slept as a baby, too. She had such little ears, beautiful red lips and long eyelashes. She was home with mommy and daddy. It was our dream come true. I had a baby girl and she was our blessing."
