I roll down the window of my car, the thought of losing Mason suffocating me.
Had I made a huge mistake? Should I drive back to his apartment and beg for forgiveness? Would he ever forgive me?
That's a stretch, I thought to myself while pushing away the millions of questions I had.
I was going to college to study journalism, and no one could stop me.
Perhaps I could become a popular writer in Brooklyn, and rent out one of those cozy apartments- like the one in Friends.
"No! Stop it," I say aloud to myself. "Rutherford is only temporary. You're not going anywhere."

The sadness I felt before had now been replaced with fear. I pulled into the crowded parking lot, unable to resist rolling my eyes at the men with obnoxious varsity jackets on.
After pulling into a tight parking space, I got out of my car, only to be scared half to death by a high-pitched voice.
"Hi! You must be new here. I'm Erin! Nice to meet you! Wow, that sure is a lot of stuff! I'm sorry, I talk a lot when I'm nervous. Nice car, by the way!" She chirps happily.
I clear my throat, incapable of deciding which remark to address first.
"Hey," I laugh a little. "I'm Desiree. It's nice to meet you, too."
"Woah, I wish a had a cool name like that!"
Stifling a cringe, I simply nod and turn my attention back to the boxes stuffed in my car.
"Well, it was nice talking to you! I think I should start to unpack. I'll see you around." I nod at Erin, smiling sincerely.
I grab the envelope in my car that tells me where my dorm room is, and grab two light boxes.
"See you later, alligator!" She screams in my direction once my back is facing her, which earns her a few stares from students walking by.
I sigh heavily. Hopefully, my roommates will not be as cringe-inducing as she is.

My eyes dart between the piece of paper in my hands and the number on the door in front of me.
A113.
I knock on the door, straining to hear if anyone is already inside. I hear a muffled sigh, footsteps nearing towards the door.
Once the door opens, my gaze meets the face of a young, pretty girl with long, hazel hair. She's wearing a bored expression on her face, but has a hint of a playful smile playing on her lips.
"Why don't you take a picture? It will last longer." She teases, grinning from ear to ear.
I blush furiously, apologizing under my breath.
"Hm. You seem normal, which is considered to be rare here." The girl rolls her eyes. "I'm Jade."
"Desiree," I respond, extending my hand. She happily shakes it, before stepping aside to let me in.
My eyes dance across the room, admiring the way Jade had decorated her side. I set my boxes on the bed nearest to the door, also noticing that there were three beds.
"There's another girl that will be staying with us." She answers my unasked question.
As if on cue, another girl walks through the door, wearing a bright, red dress.
Her shoulder-length blonde curls bounce as she approaches me, a bright grin on her face.
"Hi! I'm Sara."
This is when it all clicks. The curly blonde hair that no one could resist. The friendly smile that could easily be trusted. The sundresses that she wore, making her look even more radiant.
Sara was Mason's ex.
