Chapter Three

My mind was flooding with questions, but the biggest one was simply about her being my roommate of all people on campus. The girl staring right back at me, her hand extended in front of me, was the reason for half of the fights I had with Mason.

Her unwavering smile brushes my inner monologue under the rug and brings me back to reality.

"We've met before," I smile weakly while shaking her hand. "I'm Mason's current girlfriend."

'Was his girlfriend.' I remind myself before looking back up at Sara.

"Oh, that's right! I knew I recognized that face!" She chuckles, stealing a glance at Jade.

I simply didn't know how to react, so I decide to nod my head and plaster a similar grin on my face.

"So," I clear my throat, cursing myself for being so awkward. "You're our roommate, huh?"

"Yep." Sara replies, popping the 'p'.

Jade seems to notice the tension in the room, and decides to change the subject.

"I'm starving. Do y'all want to grab something to eat?" She asks, already grabbing her wallet.

"Is that even a question?" Sara answers. "I also love how Jade Cooper, an English major, never fails to use improper grammar."

Jade merely smirks at her remark before gesturing to me.

"Want to come?"

"Oh," I laugh a little. "Sure. Sorry."

As we walked out of the dorm room, I could have sworn I saw Sara roll her eyes.

--

The whole entire time we were at the restaurant, I couldn't help but think about what the rest of the year would be like rooming with the girl I had always disliked.

Occasionally, Jade and Sara would ask me for my input on the topic they were discussing, and I'd simply shrug and said that I agreed with what they were both saying. I've always hated being dishonest, but I simply couldn't concentrate.

I excuse myself to go to the bathroom, practically jogging to get there. With my paranoia kicking in, I turned around for a brief second to make sure they weren't talking about me the second I had left.

Repeatedly reminding myself that they weren't discussing anything of that sort, I lost focus of where I was going and crashed into a rather large body.

"Oh- I'm so sorry! I wasn't even paying-"

My rambling was stifled once I met the eyes of a gorgeous man playfully smirking down at me.

"No worries." His deep voice allures me even more, words unable to leave my mouth.

It seems as if he was waiting for a response, so I quickly spoke up.

"I'm Desiree." I smile softly, satisfied at how relaxed I managed to sound.

"Peter." He responds, shaking my hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

"You, too." I nod, unable to wipe the stupid grin off of my face.

"I'm assuming you go to Rutherford, correct?" Peter asks suddenly, throwing me off guard.

"Y-yes. How did you know?" I furrow my eyebrows.

He laughs quietly before pointing at my chest. "You're wearing a Rutherford pin."

I mentally chastise myself for being so forgetful and awkward.

"Oh, right." I chuckle, incapable of hiding the blush on my face. "Well, I should probably get back to my friends, now. It was very nice meeting you, Peter."

"We'll meet again, sweetheart." He chuckles.

With that comment, he turns around and walks away, leaving me dumbfounded.

I rushed back to the table, replaying his last words in my head over and over again. Shooting a small smile at the two while scooting back into the booth, I audibly sighed out of frustration and confusion.

What had he meant by that?

------

Helllloooo, lovelies! How are you all doing on this lovely day/night?

I finally updated! I logged onto this account not too long ago, only to see that I had 70+ reads. I am at loss of words.

It may not seem like a lot, but it is to me. It truly makes me happy that people actually read my literature and seem to enjoy it. I sort of lost inspiration and motivation over the last week, hence, the lack of activity. Although, the positive comments and friends I have made on here genuinely keep me motivated. Thank you so much.

Also, thank you for reading this little author's note and for reading my story! I love you so, so much!
