The bar maiden Jessica in her simple green dress was serving a patron of the tavern a small dumpy man who had been drinking from sun down the previous day to now and still his coin bag jingled with many a gold peace. He said to her "love i tell you love im waiting for a small group of dwarfs they are about a days ride out at the moment when they come they will need beds and a hot meal two casks of your fine brown ale as well" the bar made pours another drink sliding it across to the small man saying "we have a fine room able to accommodate such small folk and plenty of food indeed not a worry at all how long they be staying for ?" the man takes the cup tossing a few copper at the her in payment for it and thinks to him self for a moment before saying "i would imgen no more then 1 or 2 nights" she smiles sweetly nodding her head, "yes yes not a worry at all we look forward to reserving them in a day"
the night passes slowly indeed the tavern fills and the fires grows and the bards start up there singing they tell tales of fare off places high castle walls of great knights and there rescue of princess of the smart thief and how they move through smoke and shadow to take there prize and leave with out drawing an ounce of blood.
the the bright ray of morning crest over hill and with it comes a leather band horde of tribes men as they creep into the village each armed with great two handed war axes they each gathers around a small hovel and at an unseen signal breaks in to each house grabs any they find them dragging into the village square. the was one among the barbarians who was a whole head and a half taller then the rest of them bellows the the huddles of villagers "today you all become subjects to the great red dragon now he comes to collect tribute that you may all live another day".
as the giant of a man finishes talking a great shadow passed over the village...
