Chapter One / Prologue

More Than Just Surviving"Mom, I'm gonna go to the beach!" I yelled as I went down the stairs. It was a bright sunny day but that doesn't change the fact that there are 5 tanks roaming around the streets, searching for victims such as myself.
But the only reason they haven't killed my Mom and I yet was because my Mom was one of the few good doctors in the world. And I was a following doctor too. Too bad I couldn't become a doctor because I go to a horrible school. 700 people go to my school, it's huge.
It used to be a shopping mall that was destroyed when WWIII came. It was horrid. There were only 2,800,000,000 people in the world now. It stays like that. Every child that's born gets killed.
The government didn't want to "waste" money on childcare and there definitely is no shopping mall to buy diapers and such. They could always use cloth but some people are too lazy for that. So, they let their child get killed. But they probably didn't know that you get killed too, for attempting to add someone in the population.
I walked along the shore, with the sun shining down on my face. It was a beautiful day, very beautiful day. Saturdays were the time when the government takes the tanks to the south and that meant, no tanks in the beaches.
Also, I wasn't the only one in the beach. About 50 people were here and, of course, the President's daughter, was sitting down under a big tent, her guards standing on either side of her. She always came to the beach every Saturdays, nobody knew why though. She never really went in the water... She just sat there, with her sunglasses and pursed pink lips.
Also, nobody knows what colour her eyes (maybe the people who goes to her parties) were because she always wore sunglasses. It was irritating. She seemed beautiful but... Her eyes? What–
"Hey, Clarke." I turned around to see Octavia with her arm snaked around Raven's waist, who waved at me with her face flushed.
I smiled playfully at the two, "So, you two a thing now, huh?" I joked.
Octavia blushed and chuckled, "Shut up, Clarke. Now, I heard that the Princess over there," She started glancing at the President's daughter, "Will be having a party."
I shrugged and squinted my eyes at the green-eyed girl, "I didn't know and it's probably 'cause we're not invited." I said.
She grinned and poked Raven's cheek as the other girl blushed profusely, "Well, my baby right here, found a way to get in."
I rolled my eyes playfully, "She always does. Isn't this the 5th party we're gonna sneak into this year?"
"Yeah, well, their surveillance cameras are easy to bypass and their automatic doors sucks." Raven spoke up with a smirk.
"So, you in?" Octavia piped in with a grin, her eyes shining with hope.
I didn't really know why they always wanted me to tag along with them with everything they do. I just felt like the third wheel. Also, I'm glad that nobody cares that a female and a female were together.
I mean why would anyone care? For other people, life is just all about surviving and i'm one of those people. Nobody really sparked me any interest in any kind.
"Bellamy's gonna kick your ass, Octavia, if he finds out about this," I informed her but she just chuckles.
"No he wouldn't," She said and cleared her throat. I already know that she is about to imitate her brother, "My sister, my responsibility."
