Things are different this time. I know it. I'll be the one to fix everything. I'm that one special person that can do anything. Call it what you will: vain, egotistical, or whatever, but it's what I was born to do. Well, I can't really prove that, but who cares at this point.
"Eliza! Over here!" my boyfriend, Danny called. We, surprisingly, had been at this base for a while now. Our group moves from area to area depending on the neighborhood we hide in. It's been a rough year for our group, but hey, we're going strong.
Out here in northern Las Vegas was a sketchy area. With parts of the city crumbling, we had to be extra careful. Our group had lost three initiates within the last month. I was tired of seeing my friends get hurt. We work undercover and yet somehow they still found us. And we don't even know what or who they are! It's sickening, but we keep going on.
"Coming! One second," I said in response after a moment of concentration. I was in the middle of planning the group's next heist. I got up from the table with the map laid on it and jogged over to Danny.
"What's up?" I greeted.
"Nothing much, except that I'm amazing," he boasted with a smug little smile.
"Who said that? Because I for sure did not. But, serious business here, Danny. Have you found something?"
"I did actually! It'll help with the mission tonight. There is a shipment, of all things, of envelopes to the bank at 8:00 PM and we can send at least three of our operatives in!"
Now, I know that this sounds like a bank robbery. But we're the good guys! We do this because of society. It's all over the news, the cities are collapsing and the government is coming down on top of us. Luckily for everyone, I'm here. I'm not going to let my world become one of those lame dystopia books.
