  • Dedicated to Rachael; thank you for teaching me how to live. I love you.

THE WOMAN looked down at the small baby boy in her skinny arms. It had her freatures; dark hair, lightly tanned skin. She could see that behind the baby fat that it would have her angled features. It hurt to look at him, the boy, who looked so much like his father despite the most obvious traits from his mother. It was like looking back at the old photographs on the tattered, crumbling mantel back in that old grey house. Her dark eyes closed, pain clenching in her cold, black heart.

Revenge. Her savage thoughts took hold of her as she placed the sleeping child back into the second-hand crib. Worn fingers found their way to her hair as she pulled and cried out angrily. Their deaths must be avenged, she swore silently. Nothing else matters.

Her gaze found its way back to the child, the little boy she'd decided she would name Kane. He slept, his soft cheeks had a rosey tint to them and dark locks stuck to his forehead. He looked nothing like his name meant, she thought absently as she brushed back her thick, wired hair. Warlike. Could he? Could this angel in the crib possibly be something terrible? A monster? As cold hearted as she, Blaise Aubel smiled, a wicked fire lighting in her eyes as she stared down at the boy. He would be her intstrument; her tool to avenging the death of her lover and other son. She would train him to be a warrior, a killing machine.

Today, boy, will your training start.

The boy's little body jerked in his sleep. Now dream, she commanded walking away. The sun broke the horizon, lighting the crib in a brilliant orange-pink as the day began.

Just an idea. Not sure whether I should continue or not... And constructive critisicm is appreciated! (: And the title is subject to change, too...
