Celine
I feel the rush of vibrations escalate through my hands all the way up my arms, pulse quickening to the familiar beat that we have practiced many times before. The crowd hollers and screams while dancing to the rhythm. The sweat dripped down my face, blonde hair sticking to my back, and the smell of smoke filled the air. I felt the power of the drums consume my movements and I love every minute of it. We were amazing and the whole town of Portland knew it.
Getting our name to become something took time, dedication and a lot of connections. After about a year of hearing "you'll never make it" to "you all are just kids" to then finally getting called up and booking gigs at some of the most biggest clubs in Portland Maine anyone has ever seen.
Liam, our vocalist was always the highlight of the band. His dreamy dark blue eyes and luscious brown hair are just a calling to ladies. Not to mention his well-rounded voice, cutting-edge badboy appearance and masculine structure that makes all the drunk ladies swoon and loyal smoking men to be in a rage of jealousy. Ethan, our base, has been playing ever since he could use his hands and we were more than lucky to have him in our band. Having wilde hair and a creative sound, he probably makes our band ten times more enjoyable. Cade was the youngest in the team and played electric guitar. His short blonde hair and striking green eyes captivated most people into his melodies. Cade was more on the shy side, but man could he move those strings. Then of course there was me, Celine. The only girl in the band, playing the drums and adding the bang that the music needs. All together and we made the perfect band, The Surge.
At first we didn't like the idea of getting a gig here. The alcohol, smoke and red cracked walls signaled red flags all over my mind. But after promising to keep the crazed level at a minimum and actually giving it a chance, The Hub became our favorite place to play at.
Coming to a close on our last song, Liam tells everyone to have a wonderful rest of the night and we all cut off the sound. Cheers blasted in my ears and I felt success wave through me. Giving accepting smiles to Cade and Ethan, we start to pack it up and call it a night. The manager, Mike, strides over to us as the crowd disperses and the place gets ready for closing.
"Well guys, you've done it again! Business at The Hub is five times better because of you and your sick beats." Placing my drum sticks in my bag and sitting it besides the drums, I bit my lip to hold back a snicker. Mike was a pretty nerdy looking guy and I couldn't take him serious when he said 'sick beats'. Taking the place after his family, it hasn't been getting the best business until we came along to live up the place a bit.
Liam gives a shaky laugh while disconnecting the mics. "Uhh, yeah sure Mike not a problem, man." He shakes hands with Mike and I see Ethan shake his head in disapproval.
Ethan didn't like how Liam always got the attention and marketed business for all of us, like we didn't have a say in things. He thinks it's a team effort and we should collaborated on things as a group. But of course, Liam is like the leader. He books gigs for us and we use his garage space for rehearsals. He also gets his friends to make us posters to represent the band and hopes to get an album cover for us soon. Liam had all the connections and Ethan didn't like that. Cade and I don't complain about it much because it helps greatly with promotion and makes us look professional, and the more gigs we have, the more money I get to help my mom and bro.
"And of course, just as promised," Mike adds while taking out some bills from his pocket. "500 for the road. See ya next weekend?"
Liam takes the money and we all start to gather around, being done with the clean up and about ready to head out. "Yeah, same old same old. Weekends for now until we can work around our school schedule." Liam, with the money in hand, counts it evenly and spreads it to all of us
