Maura came back out and bent down to feed Bass. Again pop! Pop! Pop! Jane raced over to Maura.

"Get done and stay here until I come back for you." Jane said.

Maura reached up and grabbed Jane. "You can't leave me here."

"I promise that nothing is going to happen to you." Jane said. "As long as I'm here I won't let anything happen to you."

Maura frowned. "Be careful." Maura watched Jane. She was scared but something was telling her that she knew Jane would protect her.

Jane pulled out her gun. "I was in Iraq. Don't worry." Jane stepped out into the hallway. Her heart beating loudly in her chest.

"Where is the fucking evidences locker?" A man's voice shouted.

Pop! Pop! Gun shots heard again. Jane continued down the hallway getting closer to the voices.

"The damn money is in one of the evidence lockers." Another man said. "They are down near the morgue."

Jane froze. The morgue. Where Maura was at. Jane listened as they stepped around the corner. Locking eyes with Jane. Jane squeezed off a round.

Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop!

Two gunman down as the others came around the corner. Jane had time to disappear into an empty room. Her heart beating faster. She was told to protect Maura and that's what she will do at all costs. She listened as they passed.

"These damn cops." The man said.

"Howard it's not that simple. We knew what we were getting into." The man said.

"There's 15,000 dollars." Howard said. "My 15,000 dollars!" Howard shouted.

"We will get it back." The man said.

Jane took a short cut to the morgue as she opened the door she seen Maura was hidden under her desk with Bass by her side. The men came through the door.

Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Shots rang out. Jane watched as the two men fell to the ground. Jane looked down to see that she been hit. Falling to the ground Jane locked eyes with Maura. Maura scurried out from under the desk and laid by Jane's side.

"Jane, I'm going to need to take off your shirt." Maura said. "I need to see where you been hit."

Jane nodded as Maura pulled off Jane's shirt revealing a tan toned stomach and a black bra. Maura saw the entrance wound.

"I'm going to lean you towards me to see if it went all the way through." Maura said. Jane leaned forward as Maura looked. "It's good it went all the way through. I need to try and stop the bleeding."

Maura reached up and got some gauze off the table. She pressed it to Jane's wound.

"You saved my life." Maura said.

Jane looked at Maura. "You do that for people you like and care about." Jane said.

"Maura!" Korsak voice shouted.

"I'm in here." Maura said as Korsak and Frost came through the door.

"Are you okay?" Korsak asked.

"I'm fine but Jane has been shot." Maura sighed.

Frost went over to see that Jane had her eyes closed.

"We need a bus." Frost spoke.

Korsak looked at Maura. "Where did the gun come from?"

"It was Jane's. She saved me." Maura smiled.

Soon the sirens could be heard as the EMT's came in. They loaded Jane up onto a stretcher.

"I'm going to go with her." Maura said.

"No. I need to talk to Jane. I'm going to ride with her just meet us there." Korsak said.

Korsak followed the EMT's up and into the ambulance. Jane looked at him.

"You got a lot to explain." Korsak said.

"She can answer your questions later." The female EMT said.

Korsak leaned back as they drove to the hospital. Jane continued to stare up at the roof. She was just glad that Maura was okay. Soon they pulled up at the hospital and Jane was taken into surgery to get the bleeding to stop.

A few hours passed and Jane opened her eyes.

"Jane, tell me what happened?" Korsak said.

"Do we have to do this now?" Jane asked.

"Yes we have to do this now." Korsak said sternly.

"They came in shooting said something about 15,000 dollars." Jane said.

"Is the gun yours?" Korsak asked.

"Yes. Registered too." Jane said.

"Why do you carry one?" Korsak questioned.

"For protection." Jane sighed.

"Your lying." Korsak said sternly. "Tell me the truth Jane. What is going on?"

"I carry it because I was assigned to protect someone." Jane said.

"Protect who?" Korsak asked.

"Maura. Her father hired me to protect her because he has been threatened and he doesn't want anything to happen to her." Jane said.

Korsak stared at her. "So Maura was speaking the truth when she said that you saved her."

"Yes. She doesn't know that I was hired by her father to protect her." Jane said.

"I just need a statement from you." Korsak said. "Sorry it's mandatory that I question you the way that I did."

"It's fine you were doing your job and I was doing mine." Jane said.

"I think Maura wants to see you. Are you up for that?" Korsak asked. Korsak knew he could arrest Jane but she saved Maura. Plus she was also his best detectives sister.

"Yes I am." Jane said.

Korsak left and soon Maura came in.

"Hey Jane, how are you feeling?" Maura asked.

"I'm a bit sore." Jane said.

"That's normal especially after being shot." Maura said.

Jane giggled. "Thank you for trying to stop the wound from bleeding."

"You're welcome. You saved my life." Maura said. "I was just trying to help you."

"I would do it again in a heart beat." Jane smiled.

Maura leaned down and hugged Jane. Jane could smell her perfume and the shampoo that she used. She smelled of honey and vanilla. Jane's two favorite smells.

"I'm just glad your okay." Maura said.

Maura slowly pulled away from Jane. Just then Paddy Doyle walked in.
