Chapter 7 -

Standing outside on the porch, my legs shaking, my lips trembling, I was suddenly terrified about the thought of jumping through time again. I swallowed before asking, "Ben, are you sure I'm ready for this? Because I don't feel ready at all."

"Vanessa, you're ready, I promise you. You'll do just fine." Angelica calmed me.

"Now concentrate. Focus. Think about 2013, nothing else." Ben instructed.

After taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes. 2013, 2013, 2013... without dad... My eyes shot open. "Can I go to every possible year?" I asked rushed.

"Uh, yes, why?" Ben's look was filled with confusion.

Without answering, I closed my eyes again and kept saying to myself: summer 2009, summer 2009... But, nothing happened and it felt like I was closing my eyes for ages. "How long does it take?" I asked, still rushed.

"You'll be gone in a second but it'll feel like two minutes or so." Ben answered. I heard his voice trembling as I held my eyes closed.

Summer 2009, summer 2009, summer 2009, dad...

My head started spinning so I opened my eyes again. I saw colours, many colours, just as Ben described when he and his mother got to the Time Travelling Mangement Zone. It felt as I was flying, I couldn't do anything with my feet. It was a quite scary feeling when suddenly everything went black. Out reflex, I curled up to protect myself from falling or whatever I was going to do. The next second I was lying on the ground, safely landed. I stood up while looking around. I recognised my garden and my family sitting at the table outside, all happily talking to each other. I walked further towards my mother.

"Mum?" I called. "Mum?" I tried again as I frowned. Normally she would have heard me, she always hears everything.

Splash. Turning around, probably to see someone who dropped his glass, I gasped. I was facing a 14-year-old, brown-haired girl, who is also known as me. Uncle Steve was completely wet so my mother came to me but I splashed her as well. A smile crept up to my face. I followed myself until I was behind the hedge with my father. I smiled brighter when I saw him. I really missed to see his bald head, his stubbly beard and his blue eyes.

But, these times are over and I'll never get them back. I miss my father terribly but that's how things are. I might be a Time Traveller but I can't change history. Fortunately, I still have my mother, waiting for me to come home. But I don't even know if she wants me to come home, or if she still loves me. I know I love her and I know that I'm an awful daughter to her. Seeing the water balloon fight going on, I sighed and sat down on the wet grass.

"I don't know where I have to go, Rick." I whispered, looking up to the light blue sky. "I wish I was where I belong."

My view instantly started to blur. The many colours and the feeling of flying came back. Two minutes later I arrived in front of Rick's house. I took a deep breath to get myself to normal before I got up, crossed the street and walked around Rick's house, straight to his garden as I used to do. There was no one outside so I opened the large slidind door to their living room, where his parents were watching TV. I knew they didn't see me so I walked through, going upstairs. When I entered Rick's bedroom, I smiled at the sight of him looking handsome as ever. He was lying on his bed, texting and he wasn't wearing a shirt so his six-pack was ready to be shown.

The bell rang and I knew what was going to happen, I recognised the memory. Guess who was coming? Of course, me. Rick ran downstairs - I followed him -, opened the door for me and immediately hugged me. He dragged me upstairs and I had to laugh for his actions. Not much later I was lying in his arms, complimenting his nice six-pack as he was stroking my hair.

"I love you, Vanessa." Rick suddenly whispered.

I smiled but teased him by asking: "What did you say?"

"I said," His lips touched my ear as he came closer. "I love you, Vanessa."

"I love you, too, Rick."

And then these wondereful kisses followed. The feeling of his lips on mine was breath-taking and I instantly touch my lips, remembering the urge to never stop kissing him. I looked through his room and found what I was looking for, his school papers. He always drew some of these little cartoons about us. Not realising what it does to me, I was staring at the papers for few hours.

Eventually, I imagined Rick telling me: "You shouldn't be here. You should go to your mother. You know what to do."

Even if I didn't want to leave yet, my view blurred again. I gulped as I stood in front of my house. I slowly walked up the porch and saw the door was open for a bit. I pushed it further, only to see men I've never seen before, casually talking as they stood in the middle of the hall.

"Who the hell are you?" I wondered out loud, making the older-looking man stare at me.

"Uh, we live here, dear." The other, quite handsome guy told me.

"Dear?" I whispered to myself as I frowned. My expression changed from confusion to shock as this guy told the older one:

"Duke, meet my fiancé, Vanessa."
