The bridge seems clear as I reach the top. My feet aching and body freezing cold and wet.
I walk over to where I'd left Scott and take some deep breaths. I lean down pull him out from underneath the car. He lays on the ground, still dead.
I try to hold back the hiccuping sobs as I kneel down next to him. I close his left eye as it's not hanging by pieces.
I don't even know what to do. He's gone for good, and I don't know how to tell people. I don't know how to tell myself.
I hear a noise peeps out of his lips, and his left eye opens. I have leap of hope.
"Scott?" I ask, but I already know the answer. His iris is a crystal, pale colour as the rest of his eye is blood shot.
He leans up to grasp at me and I stand up, tears pecking my eyes. I grab my gun out of my pocket, and press it against Scott's forehead.
"I'm so sorry Scott." I whispers as his actions become a lot more vicious. I pull the trigger.
His body falls to the ground in one swift movement, the tears leak from my eyes. I don't bother to wipe his blood off my face, I just stare.
There were so many things I could've done to save him, and I did nothing.
I pick up both of Scott's arms and drag him to where I was before, where my body washed up ashore. Scott deserves a burial, so that's what I'm going to do.
Without a spade or anything i helplessly dig with the butt of my rifle. It took a good hour, but an uneven hole in the ground was dug.
I drag Scott's limp body and rest him in the hole. I pile the dirt on top and smooth it out.
I grab two woods sticks and plant a cross in the ground. Then carve into the cross 'Scott' and rest a simple flower at the bottom.
"I'm so sorry." I say once again, before packing my things and walking up the hill, away from Scott.
I'm almost emotionless now. I'm literally so alone it hurts. I can't explain the misery in experiencing right now. Suicide seriously feels like an option.
I snap out of my thoughts when I hear a loud sound creak on the bridge. I quickly run to the side of the bridge and peek my head over to get a look.
A large CAIGE tank rolls across and stops in front of all the cars. Several guards get out and I quickly duck my head down, trying to even my breathing.
"Did you see any of them?" I hear a familiar female voice say.
"We saw the girl only, but we didn't manage to see where she went once she jumped off the bridge. Possibly drowned." I hear a voice say.
I poke my eyes over to see the people, in case I recognise any of them.
Jewel.
That's the voice I heard. I silently gasp as my eyes widen. That little bitch was working for CAIGE this whole time. Now she's back.
"No! We need the girl alive. We need all immunes alive, especially her." Jewel says, growling at the guards.
Especially me? Why me?
"We can search the area before we attack. Now that we have the area." The guard says, holding up the map.
Shit! They have the map Scott and I brought! Scott must've dropped it when the infected came.
"I'll give you an hour to search, then we get our team and head off to their camp. I need you to get in contact with the airforce and give them the word when we leave." Jewel says, the man nodding. She gets back into the tank as other guards get out.
