The ride was miserable.
Everyone was just so upset from our home being destroyed. Our home.
That was a place we could call our home. We were safe there, we felt secure. Well, we thought we were.
Now I find myself sitting in this dark tank, listening the the engine roar as we head aimlessly down any road in sight. Erin has woken up, but is in a weird haze of conscience and unconsciousness.
Liam was completely shattered. He hadn't spoken a word since we'd gotten into the tank. I almost thought I could hear his heart breaking.
I wish I could something, but what is there to do?
Tell him it'll all be okay? That there's always a rainbow after rain?
That's all bullshit. Lies upon lies that we tell ourselves everyday we spend in our miserable lives.
Nothing is like it was. Nothing will be the same as it was 11 months ago. There are wild cannibals running around, ruining lives and killing whoever they see next.
There is no rainbow after rain. It's only rain after rain. And if not rain, then it'll be a drought. Either way, it's miserable.
"Kendall?" Sean's voice becomes in hearing range.
I look up at him to see him staring cautiously at me as I lay helplessly on the floor.
"Tristan wants you." He says, almost nervous to speak to me. I get up without a word and walk over to the front of the tank where Tristan is driving.
We've stopped outside a diner, which seems to be in the middle of nowhere. The sun is setting into a colour of red and orange, which only reminds me of blood.
"We'll stop here tonight, I need you to stay with Erin while Liam and I scope the place out." Tristan tells me as he gets up from his seat. I nod my head and walk back to where Erin is laying down, her groans of pain coming and going.
"Liam." I whisper. He doesn't flinch, his eyes remain glued to Erin.
"Liam. You gotta help Tristan for a minute. Okay? I'll take care of her, don't worry." I kneel down next to him, his eyes not leaving Erin's fragile state.
His eyes slowly lift to look at him, and I give him the most reassuring look I can. He then stands up and gets out the tank with Tristan. Oliver, Ruby and Sean follow behind them. Just leaving me and Erin in the tank.
A few moments of silence pass by as I study Erin's face. She has beautiful features. I'm usually a person to be very observant of people, but I hadn't taken the time to really look at Erin.
"Kendall." He voices rasps, and my heart leaps.
"Hey Erin, how are you doing?" I say as I lean down closer to her. Her eyes slowly open, to reveal her veins of red and blue.
Her eyes stare into mine, and I can't tell what she's trying to understand. I feel one tear leak from my eye, and I don't realise how upset I am until I'm looking into my best friends eyes.
"I can't stay, Kendall." She speaks, her voice ever so soft. I furrow my eyebrows together and feel a lump in my throat.
"What, what do you mean?" I say, my fingertips beginning to shake.
She gives me a small smile, before speaking.
"You know what I mean."
And I hate it, because I do.
I run a hand through my hair before all the tears beginning running wild.
"Erin you can't do this, please, you have to stay." I say, my voice wavering. She gives me a smile. A smile. Which causes me to cry even more.
This girl has been through so much suffering and pain, yet she manages to smile in the deepest, darkest of moments.
"Kendall. You know how my family left me, tied up. Because they thought I was infected?" She says, her voice become weaker.
I nod, awaiting for her to continue on.
"I realised that, even though they were my family, they didn't love me the same as you guys did. True family never leave each other behind. So when I became a part of Prodigy Suicide, I realised this was true family, even when we split apart."
I try to collect myself as more tears fall, and I watch as Erin begins to cry the same.
"The reason I know that were true family, is because even though we split up, and we left each other in the dumps. We still managed to come back together. Family always come back together, just like love does." She says, and I can see her eyelids beginning to droop.
"Erin, erin! Don't leave me now, please. Please wait for Liam. Wait for Liam." I say, my eyes getting puffy and my heart repeatedly stopping.
I hear a thud next to me, and suddenly Liam is by my side. He bends down next to Erin and she smiles at him, causing him to break down as well.
"Erin, baby please." He says, his voice cracking as I sit back and try to calm my breathing.
"It's time for me to go." Erin whispers, her voice sounding like a dying angel. Liam's cries turn into racking sobs as he pleads for Erin to stay.
"Liam. Please. I need this. I can't live like this anymore. I know now, now is my time." She speaks, as he stares lovingly into her eyes.
Tristan, Oliver, Ruby, and Sean get back into the tank, and realise the situation going on. They leave the room, giving us some privacy with Erin.
"Kendall?" Erin croaks.
"Yes?" I sob, making eye contact with her.
"If you find the others, please tell them I love them. And that this is what I wanted. Please. I can't keep living like this." She cries, as I slowly nod my head, with my hands trembling as I grasp her cold hand.
"Erin you can't do this to me. Please you can't leave me. I love you." Liam cries as he holds tightly into her hand and kisses her bruised knuckles.
"Liam, you'll be okay. You have a true family, and that's all you'll ever need." Erin says, with a small smile as she glances at me.
"No no, but you need to be in the family. You need to be there." Liam sobs as he begins hiccuping.
"I will be there, I am there. I always by your side, every step of the way Prodigy Suicide makes." She reaches her hand out and places it gently on his shirt above his heart.
"Erin..." Liam begins, but she stops his next plead.
"Please. Both of you. Eliminate CAIGE. For me." She says, her eyes closing and opening every few seconds.
"Of course, of course." Liam says, as he holds Erin in his arms.
"Thank you." She whispers, before her last breath is slipped out of her lips, and her eyes glow a sickly pale white.
Silence.
No heart beat. No cries. No words. Just silence.
Just Liam and I, sitting in silence. Breathing the final air the Erin inhaled, before she slipped away, for good.
