"start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible; then suddenly you are doing the impossible."I honestly couldn't believe what that man told me that day. I had never dreamed of playing the sport I loved so much in college.
I decided I wasn't going to tell the girls or Coach, if he doesn't already know, about the offer. I didn't want to put a spotlight on myself and seem stuck-up. I'm part of the team, I should be treated that way.

After practice that day, Lauren and I decided to go to the ice cream shop down the street. I had been craving a milkshake all day. My Jeep was in the shop for some minor repairs, so Lauren offered to drive.
"Hey is it okay if I ask Kassie to join us?" Lauren asked as she tossed her back and stick in the trunk.
"I don't see why not." I replied.
Kassie has never been my favorite person, but I put up with her. She's sort of a know-it-all, which frustrates me sometimes. Lauren has been good friends with her for a long time. Lauren and I have been best friends for longer though.
"Okay! I'll text her. I think that she's just finishing up with tennis practice." She says as she pulls her phone out of the front pocket of her bag. I scoff. Tennis. Don't need bones for that. Lauren just rolls her eyes and finishes typing.
"Let's go sassy pants."
I huff in defeat and climb in the front seat.
---
We pull up to the shop a few minutes later. For a Wednesday night, it looks pretty crowded. After readjusting my headband back on my head, I climb out of the car. Lauren opens the door first, making the cute bell ring loudly.
My god, there's a lot of people here. What is going on?
Then I remembered, tonight is a fundraising night for the athletic department. Oh great, tons of jocks crammed into a tiny ice cream shop. A dream come true.
I followed Lauren through the crowd, bumping into countless people as we both struggled to make it to the line. If Kassie is smart, she won't come.
As if on cue, Kassie sauntered through the door, all eyes on her. Something about those tennis uniforms drives boys at my school crazy. I scoff and continue to look at the flavor list. Lauren spots her and immediately runs over squealing.
Am I the only sane person in this town?
We'll go with yes.
While Kassie and Lauren greeted all the most popular male athletes, I got myself a mint chocolate chip ice cream cone. I really debated leaving until I realized I rode with Lauren and I was stuck here.
I sat down at a table mindlessly, focusing on the notification on my phone screen.
"If it isn't Meredith Scott."
I knew that voice all too well. I turned my body to face the sad excuse for a male.
"Well hello Luke."
He was surrounded by about half of the lacrosse team who were all interested in our conversation. Even coach's boy, Graham, lifted his head. Usually he's only confrontational on the field, which I respect.
"I see that diet isn't working out too well for you. Got tired of counting calories? Can you even count that high?"
A teammate next to him high-fived him.
"You're in C level Algebra, Luke. I'm in AP Calculus. Don't even try," I said as I turned my back.
Somehow that shut Luke up for now. It won't be long until he's crawling back with some crude joke that doesn't make sense. I may be a complete jock myself, but I'm not a stupid one.
---
"You ready to go, Mere?"
It's about time Lauren.
"Yeah I'm ready, let my grab my keys." I said as I searched for them. Even when I don't have my car, I always keep my keys with me. It's a thing, don't ask.
"I can't find them!" I said, starting to become worried.
Suddenly, Graham's face was in mine. He had knelt down to my level on the floor before I even noticed him.
"Luke stole them." He whispered, then handed me my keys. He seemed sweet for a few seconds before he added, "See you on the field slow poke."
I don't know what's worse. Boys or Kassie?
Definitely boys.

If I get more support on this book, I will for sure put more time into it over my other stories.
I love you all, keep keeping it real.

QOTC: What do you want to see happen in the next chapter?
Much love.
