Prologue
Penelope felt the sun's warm rays shine on her eyes gently irritating her. She knew that it was time to wake up. Even if she covered her window with her white satin colored curtains, the sun would somehow creep up on her again. She begged her mother to change it to a deep shade of black but her mother argued that it wouldn't blend with the pale green shade of her room.
So instead of ignoring the sun, she simply woke up in an unusual way like always. She crawled her way to the edge of her bed, lowered the top of her head down until it touched the floor and did a five second head stand until she fell flat onto her stomach.
She stayed like that for a few minutes almost dozing off again but woke up and shook her head before she fell asleep once more. Penelope dragged herself to her bathroom which seemed to never get dirty because of her neat freak of a mother. Her hair fell across her face blocking view of anything on the counter so she felt around until she could feel the familiar square shape of her Hello Kitty tooth brush.
Eventually, she found it and squirted a dab of toothpaste and began brushing her teeth furiously. Brushing her teeth wasn't exactly the best part of her day so she just tried to brush as fast and clean as she could so she could get it over with.
She brushed, rinsed, and flossed. She may not like brushing her teeth, but that wasn't going to stop her from keeping it clean. Before Penelope went downstairs to enjoy breakfast with her family, she made a stop in the living room next to the window sill.
Her mother once told her that the once creepy crawly caterpillar makes its cocoon, it will transform into an alluring butterfly. Just to make sure her mother was right, the next day Penelope went down to her school library and checked out a book about caterpillars and to her surprise her mother was correct.
"How are you doing little guy?" Penelope spoke to her caterpillar friend.
She knew it wasn't going to reply back but she didn't mind anyways. Penelope wondered what colors the caterpillar's wings would be. From the books she has read, she figured it could come in a variety of colors and patterns.
"Penelope! Breakfast is ready!" her mother's soft but firm voice bellowed from the kitchen.
"Goodbye little guy." she gave a farewell to the creature. Penelope wasn't so sure of the gender of the caterpillar so she just called it 'the caterpillar' or 'little guy'. If she was the creature, she definitely wouldn't want some human to mistaken her for a boy.
In the kitchen, Penelope could smell fresh oatmeal and waffles with a light fragrance of fruit, particularly, strawberries. When Penelope sat down at the table, she could sense the tension in the room as soon as both her parents sat down across her with grieve looks plain on their faces.
Penelope eyed her parents cautiously as her father casted a worried glance to her mother, Miranda Ivory. She already knew from that moment what they were about to say wasn't going to be something pleasant. But at the same time, she knew for a fact she hadn't done anything wrong this week.
Yet.
"Penelope darling, we both have something important to tell you." her father, Jacob Ivory, had announced.
From the corners of her eyes, Penelope could see her younger brother, Eric, who sat firmly in his high chair dribbling oatmeal down his chin with a mischievous smile plastered onto his baby face.
"Am I finally getting that pony that I've always wanted?" she asked her voice squeaking in the process. Although she obviously knew that wasn't the situation.
Mrs. Ivory had a nervous smile on and took her only daughter's hand in her own looking into her light green eyes. "Sweetheart," she glanced at her husband who gave her an unhelpful shrug. "We're moving."
