My fingers tapping against the keyboard are thunder and rain. The pencil scraping against the paper is the screech of a dragon. Sentences create sparks, and paragraphs create worlds. It's amazing how words, no matter how small or insignificant alone, can make explosions happen when they are Placed in the right order. How words can make us feel so Strongly is a mystery for most people. I call it magic.
That I believe no one is born without a little bit of magic. And then we grow up, and have to decide what to do with it. It's sad, but most of the magic in this world goes to waste. Every hero in every story has something special, something magical. Being a hero, I've realized, is not about having super powers or being famous. It's about embracing your quirks and Weaknesses; finding your magic and using it for something great.
Books have always been there for me when I needed to smile or wanted to cry. One reason why I want to be an author is so that i can give what I have been given. When we moved to our current home, my bookshelf was moved into my room before my bed. A huge bookshelf was something I had always dreamed of. I told my parents That as long as I had the bookshelf, I'd be content with sleeping on the floor if it was Necessary. It did not take long before the shelf Became filled with notebooks, stories, ideas and folders with maps of fantasy worlds. And, of course, books. While my bed is the place the where my body rests, my bookshelf is the where my mind can be free.
Now it's over ten years since I picked up a pen and wrote my first story. I've written so many words by now, That not writing makes me anxious. If I do not always have a notebook in my bag, or at Least a napkin to scribble is, I feel a little lost. There was a time when I used to be ashamed of writing, Because in my friend group, it was not considered cool. I tried to find a good enough reason to quit, but I always failed. I still meet people who look at me weirdly when I tell them what I want to do with my life, but the Thousand Reasons to write are always more powerful than a person telling me not to.
As long as my heart beats to the rythm of tapping my fingertips, I will not be silenced. There is no special gene for creativity, but sometimes it feels like I have it. The day I stop looking for new things to learn about and explore and be passionate about, is the day when I've lost myself. I am a geek, a reader, a sister, a best friend, a dreamer, but most of all; I am a writer. Therefore, no matter how hard it is to start, I always write.
