It's almost sunset before Haze wakes up. I've built a fire but need Haze to light it because i have no matches, lets just say that they weren't the most important thing that people brought from earth, and those who did bring them found it near impossible to light them in Vivid's atmosphere. As a result, many teens with the fire link have made their fortune going from tribe to tribe lighting fires for them. That's what Haze had been doing when i met him.
He and a couple of mates all traveled Vivid, helping tribes for a cost. One of his friends, Sparrow and was an air elemental, her boyfriend, known as X, was an Earth linked. If they had found a Water linked elemental then they would probably have become the most sought-after group on the planet and could have demanded a large sum of money for each job done.
Unfortunately, there had only ever been two known waters. The young boy had been shot by a jealous tribe when he refused to use his rare powers to drown an enemy of theirs, because if this the girl who has the same power now spends her days in a protected facility in Capital City and has never been seen in public since.
When I met Haze and his group they had just destroyed half a forest for a tribe trailing The Hunters and i stumbled into them, literally. I had been running from this scout when, being my clumsy self I tripped over a log and cannoned straight into Haze's strong arms. (no, this isn't the beginning of a soppy romance.) Anyway, as it turns out I had lost the scout miles back but I guess paranoia was what kept me running until a small log and strange blue haired boy stopped me.
After that, I travelled with them for a bit as Haze tried to figure my power out, it is unusual for someone with such bright features like mine to have no power but I guess I'm just weird like that. but I travelled with them for a couple of months before I realised how fast the time was flying. one night I just decided to get back on my original path and get revenge for my parents. As I packed up my stuff I thought about telling Haze before I went, I had never really got on well with the other two, but they mostly just kept themselves to themselves, never trying to talk to anyone. I finally settled on writing a note to Haze, thanking him for everything he had done for me and I set off.
A mere two days later I was sitting on a rock, sketching the city in the distance when a shadow was suddenly cast over me, my immediate reaction was to ignore it, assuming it was just a cloud and would go away any second. after a few seconds it moved but this time it had begun to look like a shadow caused by a person. I pulled out my gun, hoping to shoot a Hunters scout. I had been very subtle about it but within seconds the gun was out of my hand and another had was over my face as I built up a scream.
"Do you really want to attract a Hunters scout?" knowing that voice anywhere I relaxed and swung around, pulling Haze into a hug.
"How did you find me?" I'd asked. "Why did you find me?"
haze had explained that he didn't really want to spend anymore time with the silent couple (Sparrow and X) so tracked The Hunters, and therefore me, there. he later told me about his parents and how he wanted revenge too. After that we travelled all over Vivid together, planning, scheming and plotting ways in which to take down The Hunters tribe.
right, back to the present. When Haze finally wakes up he lights the fire and helps me seek out some vegetables for dinner. Once we've eaten I pull out the portable calendar I carry around with me to mark off the days till the deadline, my birthday.
A couple of hours later and I'm watching the dark sky, staring at the only light, being generated by the stars and moons (Vivid has three moons), when a shrieking noise suddenly becomes audible. sitting up, I cover my ears to the intense noise as it raises in volume and pitch.
"What the hell is that?!" I yell over the noise, looking at Haze who is curled up, shielding his ears from the bone shattering sound.
The shriek continues to raise in pitch and volume before it suddenly stops with a strong gust of wind, knocking me onto my side. I sit up, shaking slightly, and take my hands from my ears. Im not really shocked when my hand come away with a little blood lacing my palms.
"What was that?" murmurs Haze, gazing at my bloody hands in a daze.
"Not a clue." I shook the ringing out of my aching head. "looks like it's over now. We should really get some sleep. Ok?"
Haze nods and stretches a little, I suspect he was sleeping until the shrieking came around. I take one last look at the three full moons, noting that they are getting closer together. Within a few weeks they will all a line, the first time since we arrived here. I've always been fascinated by the moon, even back on Earth, especially what it (or they) can do to people and things. Back on Earth I remember the prophecies and tales of werewolves and men influenced by the moon and stars, I even love the thought of star signs and the fact that something that hasn't even seen you before can determine some aspects of your looks, personality and life over all. For that reason, I have fund myself excited by the idea of the first alignment of the moons since Vivid became inhabited, I really want to see what it looks like and note any affect it has on me. I already know that I get a headache every time the three moons are full at the same time but that only happens two or three times a year, thankfully. It's unlikely that it will do anything but anything seems possible on this new planet, especially recently.
I continue to think about the moons and stars as I slowly drift off to sleep.
