At the dawn of the next day, they arrived to the cluster of islands that Max had been studying and directing them to. Xael dropped the anchor and lowered the ramp so they could make it off the boat and safely to land. Max hoped off the boat and looked around. "So what are we looking for exactly?"
"Any signs of color here and if the people know anything about..Abner..."
"What's Abner?" He asked following Xael through a forest.
"The chick directing the army..the army of those little monsters..."
"What's the point anyway? She just likes colour?" He asked looking around the area for colour.
"Color has the strongest energy because it's reflecting to people through sunlight. She's gathering it for something.."
Max sighed "well we better stop her soon before the whole world turns grey." He froze staring off in the distance.
"Y—Something wrong, Max?" Xael looked over at him. Max pointed over into the distance backing up slightly "something green I saw it it moved fast but it was there..." He said almost as a whisper.
"Damn, it might be another Hix.." Xael huffed.
"Y-yeah... Your gonna kill it right?" He said quickly with a hint of fear in his voice.
"Of course I'm gonna kill it, those things don't deserve to live. Stay with Sugar." Xael ran off into the distance to encounter the green monster. Max looked down at sugar and took a defensive stance. Sugar took his hand and slightly hid behind him. Mac slightly held her hand back watch Xael run off in the distance.
"Is she gonna be okay, Max..?" Sugar asked quietly.
"She's gonna be fine I Guarantee it. I mean she's pretty dam strong." He said trying to comfort her.
"That's true..." She sighed.
He pat her head "don't worry she'll be back."
"Okay.."
~meanwhile~
"Where did that damn thing go..? Max might've just been hallucinating.." Xael muttered.
Max was looking around staring to panic 'she's been go to long..' He though to himself as he tried looking for Xael. "M-Max, no..!" Sugar hugged his arm. "Don't leave, she'll be back...!"
"Stay here, I'm going to stay in sight of you I just want a bit more range okay? I'll be fine just yell if you need me." He said rubbing her head and taking a few more steps away from her he wouldn't got far with out her but he had to find Xeal. Sugar looked at the older male with a worrisome stare. He continued looking back at sugar. He spotted a village not far ahead. "Sugar I see a village maybe she went there come with me and we can find her!" He said walking back to collect her.
"Okay..!" She took his hand.
Max took Sugar's hand and lead her through into the village it was empty "Xael! Xael!" He called hoping for a reply. They were the only noise. No one else was there."She's not here, Max..." His grip tightened with a panic as he walked to a nearby house and opened the door and walked in.
"Stay in here it's safer." He said looking around the rooms for any defence weapons. Sugar sat down and waited patiently, keeping an eye out for anything.
"If you see anything move tell me." He said and he opened a cupboard and found some matches. He sighed and took them. "Okay, Max.." She heard something from outside and jumped.
Max looked at her "everything okay Sugar?" He asked walking over near her.
"I-I heard something outside..." He ran over next her ready to attack if it was needed he looking around hoping it was just Xael. It was another Hix, this time a brown square. He took out the match box slowly and lit three holding them In his fingers he stood in front of sugar well facing Hix "you got any brown on you?" He asked quietly not even looking at her.
"I don't have colour, Max..it's like Miss Xael.."
"But can't you see your own colour like I can?" He asked now really confused.
"No..I can't see any color..."
"But..." He looked down at himself "I'm sorry I even asked.." Sugar held his hand tight. Max let go of her hand lunging forward and stabbing the Hix with the small flaming sticks as her as he could. The monster hissed and managed to fly away, despite being on fire. "Shit.." He mumbled under his breath he looked back at Sugar "you alright?" He asked looking her over for any harm.
"I'm okay, Max.." She hugged his arm, looking at the now burnt out matches. He smiled and hugged her back he had a small bit of burns on his hand but he didn't care. She heard another noise, this time it was a splat. "What was that?" He asked looking around ready with more matches.
"Damn things.." Xael muttered, then walking in front of them. She cleaned her glasses, covered in what looked like paint splatters but they knew it was the "blood" of the Hix.
"Xael!" Max cheered relieved to see her.
"There you two are..Max, you disobeyed me!" She was slightly pissed off but thankful that her crew was alive.
"I though you had ran off to the village so I came to find you.. I guess I was wrong.." He looked down knowing he would get his ass whooped. She ended up hugging them both.
"D-Don't fuckin' scare me like that again..." Max was a bit surprised by her actions and patted her back lightly not sure what to do. "So your not gonna kill me?"
"Not this time, no..just follow orders next time...and if something happens to me, you run. You run with Sugar and don't look back." She let go of them.
"Highly doubt that." Max said shaking his head "we're a team Xael we go down together so we can help each other back up." He said looking down at her.
"The captain goes down with her ship. The crew's allowed to go off without it." She said, looking back up into his eyes.
"If the crews loyal enough they'll stick around with her." Max said now just being stubborn.
She cursed under her breath so Sugar couldn't hear. "C'mon, you dweeb..let's just go."
Max smiled slightly and followed her. "as you say. Captain."
"Aye, aye, Miss Xael!" Sugar walked alongside him.
