~Midnight~
He ran across the road, body bent as if he could somehow dodge the rain. The streets were quiet at this time as he ran across it. Thunder boomed ahead, breaking the silence and the rain began to fall harder. Mitchell ran, almost slipping up the stairs to his little apartment. He knew he had some serious explaining to do to his wife, but she would understand. He hoped.
Lily was a worrier, that was all she did, worry about the littlest of things and make up a fuss when things were not going according to plan, but that is why he loved her, her constant worrying showed that she cared, something he had not experienced before. Something his parents rarely ever showed.
He sighed and slotted his key into the door and turned it, quietly pushing it open and shutting it behind him. The house was warm and felt good on his cold skin. He shrugged off his trench coat, hanging it on the clothes peg and kicked off his shoes. He felt slightly better but was still shivering from the dampness of his clothes.
He began walking up the stairs, noticing the living room was dimly lit and the faint sound of the television was playing. He backed up and went to see if Lily was still awake or had fallen asleep with the TV on. Lily always fell asleep with something on , whether it be the light or the television something was always on. Thats one of the things that Mitchell also loved about Lily, her ability to fall asleep with a bright light and loud television on, it amused in, he needed complete darkness and no noises to be able to fall asleep.
He walked into the living room hoping to find Lily but the room was empty. He frowned and found the remote, switching it off and turning off the lamp. Immediately, the room fell silent, which unsettled Mitchell slightly, as if on cue his stomach growled in protest, realising he hadn't eaten since noon, he trudged back the way he came and headed towards the kitchen.
The room was dark, except for a section of the floor that was lit up by the lamp post filtering in from outside. He felt along the wall for the light switch and squinted as the room lit up in a brilliant white light. He walked over to the window and shut the blinds, turning back round and noticing a bottle of wine, centred on the island with a note attached.
He smiled faintly and walked over to it, detaching the note and skimming it with his eyes.
I waited up all night for you, but you never showed. No worries, we will have our fun another night, the kids ... Well what I can I say, they're perfect. Hope you like my surprise
He smiled at the message and walked around the island to grab a glass from the cupboard. There was a heavy metallic scent in the air, crinkling his nose he took a step forward, his feet slipping out from beneath him and his body tumbling to the ground.
He groaned, looking down to see what he had stepped on.
What the -
He raised a blood soaked hand to his feet, peering closer at it.
Is this wine ?
He peered closer at it, his vision blurring and focussing in on the face staring back at him on the floor.
"Lily ?" He whispered,
"Lily ? B.Baby ?" He stuttered, crawling closer to his dead wife.
"Oh God baby please, wake up." He cried.
