Chapter Two

The first day at school. Mace High School, the biggest one in the district. I was extremely nervous. Maya and Jack were Juniors and I was a Freshman. I'd be on my own.

As we entered the front office we got handed our schedules and told to wait on our mentor. So apparently I'd have to spend the rest of this school year with this person, we are going to have every class together. Hopefully they're at least nice.

Maya's came in first happily, she swung the door open. "Maya! Love, I'm Lissa, I'm your mentor! Come lets get to looking at the school!"

Lissa was about 5'2 with long blonde hair, she seemed like a cheerleader with all her pep. Most likely one of the popular girls.

Jacks mentor came walking in with my mentor. They gave a high five and he walked to me.

"So hey Taylor, im Nick. If you don't know yet you're going to have all your classes with me and all that. Let's get 'er goin."

He picked up my backpack that I had setting in the floor beside me and swung it over his broad shoulder. I honestly couldn't tell if he was happy or aggravated to have me as a mentee.

I just followed behind the kid and tried not to make too much eye contact. I looked back for a glance at Jack and he gave me a thumbs up and a smile.

Just as I was turning around I ran into Nick and grabbed his arm for stabilization. He just laughed. "So sorry I was kinda rude back there, I was with my brother, who is your brothers mentor and didn't wanna seem soft."

I rolled my eyes "Yeah let's not seem all soft to the new girl." He laughed at me.

"Come on Taylor, we have English first period." I obliged to his wish and we went into the class room.

I walked in with him as he handed my bag to me and i took a seat beside him and a group of his friends. A ton of girls were looking at me and so we're all the guys in the class..

As our teacher walked in and smiled to me and started today's lesson. Nick turned around and put his hand on my desk, "Mrs. Baker is really nice, we have tests every Friday over our bell ringers, you're going to need a lot of paper in here. I'm sure you'll be okay. Devin will help you too," he looked over to his friend sitting across the isle from me and he smiled, "Just poke me if you need me." I laughed quietly and nodded. "Gotcha."

As we worked on our Annotation for our articles, Devin kept adjusting in his seat. I'd glance over at him and he'd be looking at me.
I decide to act like I don't see him looking at me but lean over.

"Can you help me figure out this?" I whisper and he smiles and leans over close to me. Honestly this boy is kinda creepy. He goes to work on my paper when a girl taps me on the shoulder and i turn around.

"Hi I'm Molly, I just wanted to tell you I really like your bag." She smiles and smacks her gum and one of her friends nods. "Me too! And hi I'm Lacy."

I nod and look at them both. Devin tugs my arm and I turn back around. "What?"

"Well I finished this for you on accident." he softly laughs. "So you're good for this class for the day."

I smile to him and start putting my stuff up. "Why'd you do it for me?" I shake my head awkwardly and zip up my bag.

"Eh there were only like 4 more and you probably wouldn't have found them." I roll my eyes and stand up as the bell rings.

"Alright"

Nick grabs my arm and leads me to our next class, "We have VPA and basically all we do is watch videos and stuff so you can just chill with me and Jonah." I nod.

"Just one of the guys."
