"See you later, Alice!" yelled Stevie as she waved me goodbye, and ran up the stairs to her apartment. I smiled, blushed, and waved back. She looks so cute today I thought. "ALICE!" Josh yelled right in my face, startling me.
"Oh sorry, what did you say?" I blushed. Josh rolled his eyes.
"Can you try to think about something else besides her for once?" He teased playfully.
"I don't know what you're talking about," I replied. I started to walk ahead of him, avoiding eye contact every possible moment I could. I could feel him roll his eyes behind me.
"Oh please. Blind people could tell you basically drool over her 24/7. I've only known you for 2 years and I know better than most people." He caught up to me and smiled his perfect white teeth smile that would make most girls swoon. To bad he was gay like me.
"Whatever," I muttered, trying, unsuccessfully, to keep a straight face. We burst out laughing.
"Do you wanna go shopping? I need a new outfit for my date with John."
"I thought you were going out with Jose"
He shrugged.
"He was to needy."
I rolled my eyes.
"I swear you have a new boyfriend every week. And besides I have to go. Maurice wants me home now," my smile wavered and I winced when I said Maurice. Josh's smiled wavered to, and for a millisecond it looked like he was sad. It takes a lot for Josh to get upset. Josh had an idea of what my step dad did to me, but didn't know the whole story. Josh just gets upset when I'm upset. I don't know what I'd do without him. I'm grateful for such a great friend. I cracked a smile thinking about the memories we've made together. But soon my smile had taken the place of a frown.
"Oh... okay, see you later, Al!" Nelson fake smiled and we walked the rest of the way to my house in silence. We parted with a hug and he whispered in my ear good luck. There isn't enough luck in the world to help me I thought. I waited until Josh went around the corner to check my purse. I rummaged in my purse until my hands found what they were looking for. My palm brushed against a sharp metal object.
Then I slowly walked up the old brown stairs that led me to our front doors.
