"Alice... Alice." I had died and gone to heaven. She was here. Finally, I could start clean. No more school, or my fake mom and definitely no Maurice. I smiled.

"... I think I just saw her lips move. Alice... Alice... Alice."

I felt my smile widen. Now my senses started coming to me. Ow. It hurts to just smile. Oh well, it was worth it. The two people who cared for me and who I cared for most were here. She was clutching my hand that had a IV in it.

Wait... what? An IV? I slowly forced my eyes open, as painful as it was. The blinding light sent waves of pain through my brain. I saw her. Beautiful, as always, of course. Her long brown hair fell in ringlets past her blue eyes. I held her hand. Josh looked like the same guy I knew and loved (as a friend of course) since kindergarten. I just didn't get one thing. Why were their eyes bloodshot? They looked as if they had been crying for days. That's when I saw machines all around me. I felt a sting in my wrist. I tilted my head to the left, and pain exploded in my brain.

"Alice! Alice! Don't-"

That's the last thing I remembered I before I blacked out.

This time when I woke I knew(sadly) where I was. I felt the IV passing fluids to me and the burning in my wrist and my neck where there was my cuts freshly stitched. Damn. It didn't work. Why can't I just die? No one cares anyway. I swear nothing ever works out for me. Literally, not even death. Everything hurt, but not as bad as last time. I opened my eyes and flinched. Suddenly a sign above started blinking the word NURSE. I carefully shifted my eyes to the left to see Stevie and Josh waking up on the couch.

"She's awake!" Amanda shook Josh.

"OMG! Alice. Alice!" They ran up to me and Stevie sat down and held my hand. Josh just looked at me as if he felt bad for me. A nurse walked in and turned off the sign.

"Give her some space to breathe. She's been through alot in the past few days. Hi, Alice. I'm Justin." He smiled his perfect white teeth and his hazel eyes seemed to light up the room.

"Like Justin Timberlake?" Josh asked a little too nicely, batting his eyelashes. Justin just laughed. Me and Stevie exchanged glances rolling our eyes. Some things never change.

"How do you feel, Alice?" Justin asked.
"I feel fine," I lied, "Where is my mom?" I asked. Everyone exchanged cautious glances.

Justin just patted my shoulder and said "they left".

"What?" I asked confused. Was she in the waiting room?

"I'll give you some privacy. You have 10 minutes to tell her, but after that she needs to be discharged after I check her vitals. Justin gave me a pity look then left.

What the hell was going on? Josh started tearing up and Stevie sat down and held my hand.

"When they found you in your room, they called 911. You were passed out but not dead. Your pulse was weak. They rushed you to the ICU." She started tearing up and looked at Josh, as if she couldn't go on. He nodded confidently.

"Maurice... he just... went crazy. He yelled at your mom saying how it was her fault that she raised you badly. He didn't care whether or not you died. He left after that. And when I say left... I mean for good. He packed up and left. He gave your mom almost a million dollars so she wouldn't sue him for what he did to you. Your mom cried, took the money, and left to. Your house is going to be sold soon. You can stay with us for a while. It' ok, Alice. We will get through-"

I stopped listening to him then. At the point I blocked out and everything. His voice. Her touch. I just absorbed everything he said and stared at the pale wall seeing nothing. My mom was gone. Physically and emotionally. The old her was never coming back. And it was all his fault. I hoped for her so badly. Now she would never come back. She was probably somewhere hiding, already with a new boyfriend. Whatever, I could care less. She made her decision and now it was time for me to make mine.

"Let's go," I said in a clear sharp voice looking at Stevie.

"What? Right now?" Stevie asked exchanging a cautious glance at Josh.

"Yea," I replied just as soon as Justin walked back in.

"I want to leave now," I said.

"Are you sure? Your vitals are fine, but you seem in pain. Maybe you should stay here a couple more hours. We'll see how you feel then. Your mom signed a letter saying you could home with whoever, so... maybe you should take it easy for a while." Justin looked at me cautiously.

"Look, Justin, I'm fine. I feel fine. I'm gonna go home with my friends. So just get me out of all this stuff and I'll be one my way." I sat up angrily and tried to ignore the pain in my neck and wrists.

"Fine," Justin replied finally giving up. He gave me a change of clothes and left. I changed into them and looked at my friends worried faces. I smiled and tried to reassure them.

"I'm fine. We can go now." I wiped a tear away from Stevie's face.

"Alice, you scared the hell out of me when you did that. If you hadn't made it-" She couldn't go on. All of sudden she wiped her tears away, stepped closer to me, leaned in and slapped me. Hard.

"Ow, what was-" I couldn't finish my sentence because she cut me off when she crushed her lips to mine.

"The first thing was because you scared us. You think no one cares but we do. Don't EVER do that again. Got it?" Stevie asked angrily.

"... uh... yea, got it," I replied still shocked.

"And the second thing was for... well, I like you, a lot. I've wanted to do that for a while." Stevie blushed. Josh just stood there with a shocked look on his face. Trust me I was just as shocked as he was. That was the last thing I was expecting. I was speechless. I couldn't talk. So I didn't. I just leaned in and kissed her again (but without the slap in the face). She wrapped her arms around my shoulders and I held her closer.

"...ok... we get it." Josh interrupted us. Stevie broke the kiss and I laughed.

"It's not funny," she said angrily but couldn't keep the smile off her face. I just kissed her forehead and hugged her.

"Btw you guys are cute together. I just have to come up with a ship name and-" Stevie cut him off.

"Yea yea, we get it. Let's just go," She blushed and untangled herself from my arms. I just smiled.

"Yea, let's go," I said smiling at Stevie, my girlfriend.

I finally knew where and what I was gonna go and do. My girlfriend, my best friend, and I walked out the hospital all ready to face a new chapter in our not-so-crappy (anymore) lives.
