* Alec *
"Dude, that last hit was sick! Did you see Andrew's face!?" Chad questioned, slapping my back. "If you keep this up, there's no way the recruiters won't pick you for the college team next fall." I shrug and readjust my bag.
"I don't know man," I reply. "Coach is pissed that I didn't show up for practice and he's the one in charge of my recommendation to the college reps.,"
Chad tosses his baseball in the air and catches it in the palm of his hand.
"Which reminds me, where were you during practice?"
I smirked, and gave Chad a sideways glance.
"Oh...OOHH," he grabs my arm and pulls me back. "Dude, who?"
"Chelsea,"
"Homeroom Chelsea?"
I grin, " Yeah, man," I lean close to his ear and whisper, "she's an animal,"
Chad howls, "Man, I don't know how you do it. I can't even get one girl to sleep with me,"
"It's a gift," I open the door to the Sweetbrew Cafe and usher Chad in. It was Tuesday, my usual coffee shop day. That's when Danielle, the hot blonde, in my Spanish class works. With a wink, a half smile, and maybe a little physical contact, I can get whatever I want for free. Like I told Chad, it's a gift. I follow him inside and glance around. As usual, every girl's head turns in my direction. No surprise. I don't mind. I enjoy the attention. I always like the possibility of a new girl to "hang out" with. Shuffling up to the counter I order my usual from Danielle. She giggles and replies with a sickly sweet, " I'll get that for you right away,"
I roll my eyes and turn around to lean against the counter. Chad is blabbering on about something. Probably about my stats this baseball season. Sometimes it seems he's so obsessed with my career he forgets about his own. Chad was falling behind and it was starting to show. I worried about him but I also worry more about my own career. My whole next phase of life was riding on the big game coming up next month.
As I scan the room I happen to notice one girl who doesn't seem to have notice me when I walked in. Which was odd. All girls notice me. All girls. No exceptions. This particular female sat near the window, at a small round table. She had fair, smooth skin and long slim fingers that flipped over another page of her textbook. Her features were smooth, petite. She had rosy cheeks and deep blue eyes. The sun filtered through the window casting a luminous glow on her jet black hair. Little wisps fell from her braid, framing her face. She almost looked beautiful, but not quite. A little too ordinary for my taste.
"Here you go sweetie," Danielle taps my shoulder. She leans over the counter her boobs practically falling out of her shirt. I give Chad a look and he smirks, trying not to laugh. I roll my eyes and thanked her. I took one last glance at the girl and headed towards the door. I watched as she tucked her hair behind her ear and continued to stare intently at her book. Who does that? If she keeps that up her whole life will pass her by and she won't even notice because she's too busy sticking her nose in a book.
"She's alright looking I guess, but you've done better Alec," Chad points out, smacking my arm.
I turn to him shaking the fog out of my mind, "Huh? What?"
He pointed his coffee cup at the girl. "She's ok but you've been with better,"
"Chad!" I crinkle my face up in disgust, "I would never. Gross man,"
Chad snorts and shakes his head, "oh ok. I see how it is." He struts out the door a childish grin plastered on his face. I frown and shove the door out of my way. The bright sunlight hits me. The late spring air fills my lungs.
"What is 'ok I see how it is' supposed to mean? Are you implying something?"
Chad turns around to face me and takes a sinister sip of his latte. "Me? Nah,"
"Lier," I mutter. Chad laughs and I realize why. "You don't think I could get that girl to go out with me do you?"
Chad shrugs, "True,"
I punch his arm. "That's so not true man! I could get any girl I want!"
Chad shakes his head. "I dunno man, I mean she was kind of plain looking and did you see what she was wearing? You only go after the hot girls."
"That doesn't mean I can't get her to go out with me,"
"Ok well let's make a bet then," Chad challenges.
"Fine,"
"I bet that you can't get that girl to go out with you,"
I raise an eyebrow, "what's at stake here?"
"My truck, and your lucky baseball card collection,"
I cringe. My baseball cards are worth thousands of dollars, letting this go would be hard. But getting that girl seemed very easy. With my charm and good looks, there was no way she wouldn't swoon. At this point I was feeling pretty confident, plus, Chad's truck had been something I drooled over for years. It would look very nice in my garage. I take a sip of my coffee and throw my hand at Chad. He shakes it and I reply, " You sir, have a deal,"
