Saturday. My one day of freedom from school and practice was now bogged down by a stupid writing assignment. Our English teacher, Mrs. Delanoe teaches 3 different periods of 12th graders and unfortunately decided to give us all the same assignment. The only difference is that each class had to write a story under a different category. My class's category is deception. The other classes got assigned love and heroism. At the end of the semester Mrs. Delanoe wanted to have a combined period with all of her senior English students and make us read our papers to each other. Connecting the points between the three topics. Lamest assignment ever. I wanted to do my research on google but she insisted we use our public library. So here I was shifting through shelves of decaying paper trying to write a story on deception. As I rounded the corner between isle JR369 and JT478, I slam into something. I stumble back a step startled. "Oomph! why don't you watch where you're go- oh..... it's you". I look down to find a pile of books and none other than café girl. For a split second I stand there, unsure of what to do or say. I didn't want to be a creep but at the same time, I really want to win this bet quickly so it can be over with.
"And exactly who am i?" She shoots back as she clambers to her feet. Her blazing blue eyes almost intimidate me a little.
"I don't know your name but I've seen you in school before, Claire or something like that right?" I take a stab in the dark. I really don't know anything about her and so far, my good looks don't seem to be fazing her. I pick up some of the books trying to collect my racing thoughts.

"Yeah, something like that." She snatches three of the books from my outstretched arms. I flinch.
"Let me help you so you don't run into anyone else. Where are you sitting?" I snap. I tried to stay as polite as possible but the thought that she didn't take any interest in me at all was frustrating. Claire, or whatever her name is didn't reply. She just stared at me with those deep ever changing eyes. "Are you sure you didn't hit your head when you fell? you seem kind of out of it." I ask impatiently. I wave my hand in front of her face to make sure.

She swats my hand away "No I'm fine thanks and I'm sitting over there." She threw her hand in the direction of a table near the aisle, and turned on her heel briskly waking away. I almost had to jog to keep up with her. Her hair was loose today, swishing side to side down her back as she walked. Anyways, She dropped the books onto the table and retrievied the ones I still had in my arms. Our hands touched, sending an electric shock up my arms. She tried to pull away but for some reason my dumb hands held on for a split second. "Sorry I ran into you and thank you for helping me with the books." I shake my head removing the fog. Common! Notice me! I beg in my mind. I know I'm attractive. Why is she blowing me off? I've tried long looks, physical contact. I was running out of ideas to keep the conversation going, and that made me upset. I needed to win this bet and in order to do so, I needed her to fall for me.
"It's fine, just watch where your going next time, we don't want you running into anyone else." I snap. Realizing how rude that must have sounded I add remorsefully, "I guess I'll see you at school on Monday?" She takes a step back, detaching her hands from mine.
"Maybe." She replied hurriedly. She obviously was done talking to me. I stand there for a second, trying to comprehend the rejection I was feeling.
I didn't know what to say so instead, I nod my head and do what any cool guy does, I exclaim, nonchalantly,"Well see ya," and walked away. Grumbling to myself I find a few books that were on my list and head to check out. Maybe I should check out a book on "how to win a bet," or "how to get the girl:for dummies".
