Moonshine Ribbons

We followed the sun's magnetic pull
As it fled recklessly below the skyline
Beckoning slivery ribbons, moonshine,
A trail of drifting stars was wonderful

Stripped off our past, shriveled cocoons
Yours so frail, mine dark and weighted
We watched in splendor as they faded
Allowing us to lift like stray balloons.

You reminded me of our destination,
I shushed you, fought the urge to glare,
And, rather than arriving there
I focused on our vibrant celebration

Cut through amber rays, deaf and blind
I beg, don't take my hand, let's disperse
Before this dizziness gets worse
Bliss is the gift for only a simple mind.

Laughing, blinking out rain and dust
I beg, don't take my hand, let's depart
The umbra in me seeks your pure heart
Can't you see we repel, I might combust

Somehow we remain a looney pair
Crawling through the dampened grass
I feel a sudden stab, fresh broken glass,
Ignore the foreign sting as everywhere
Silver ribbons wrap around the earth.
