"FIRE!! FIRE!!!! PAIGE WAKE UP!!!"
Paige awakened with a scream and a gasp and jumped out of her bed, only to faceplant into the wall next to her bed. She groaned and rubbed her nose, which had hit the wall pretty hard. She looked at from the floor, to see Maxinne; levitating, in a crucified position, on fire.
Paige screamed. "Maxinne!!! You're on fire!!"
Max didn't move or say anything. She just lay there -- hang there, rather -- on fire, frightened the living (or dying) daylights out of Paige.
Paige stood up, gazing at Max. This must be a joke, she thought.
Finally, Max looked up and started laughing. She dropped to the ground, landing perfectly on her feet, and the fire disappeared. There were no burn marks on her arms.
Paige stared at her, astonished, but felt foolish and naive at the same time. How could she believe such things? They were dead after all, how bad could it hurt her? Well, hitting the wall hurt pretty bad, she thought to herself. But still, Max couldn't die again.
"What was that for!" Paige yelled at the laughing Maxinne. "You almost gave me a heart attack!"
Maxinne chuckled as she wiped tears away from her eyes. She had been laughing that hard. "You don't have a heart to attack." She informed her. Paige saddened.
"Oh, get over it. You're dead forever, might as well get used to it." Max snapped at her. Paige started to tear up.
"I don't want to be dead anymore." Paige whined. A tear slowly streaked her right cheek. Max sighed.
"Don't whi--" Max stopped. "Wait a minute." Max scrambled across her bed to her book-bag, where she brought out her Deaducation book and hurriedly flipped the pages until she stopped and pointed at a page. "A-ha!" She exclaimed. "Here it is."
Paige sniffed and looked up in curiosity. "What?" Max shushed her and began reading.
What could she possibly been thinking.
Max began fast-walking to Paige, excitement painting her face. "That's it! Paige!" She dropped the book and shook Paige by her shoulders. "Do you know what this means?"
"W-what means? I don't have any idea what you're--"
"You don't want to be dead, right?" Maxinne quizzed her.
There was a silence.
"Right?" She asked again.
"Um... right." Paige answered.
"So you want to be back on Earth?"
Paige squinted and held up her hand to stop Max. "Just what are you insinuating? Enlighten me, please."
Max squealed. "I'm saying you can live again!"
Paige stared at Max as if she were crazy.
"You obviously belong in the looney-bin." Paige quipped.
Max shook her head. "No, you don't get it, I know a way you can get back to Earth!"
There was another silence before Paige replied.
"...How?"
"You possess someone." Max grinned from ear to ear at Paige, who was beginning to feel both excited and confused.
