Lexa POV
My eyes open to my dark cell, which is no different than the way I left it last night. The many candles, the books on the floor and the chair in front the door.I crawl out of bed, unbuttoning my shirt and tying it around my waist. I open a drawer pulling out a pen. I look at my bed, opening the pen. I draw a tally on the bed sheet, marking another day without The Governor.I put the pen away and pull a tank top on. I look at myself in the mirror taped to my wall. Of course I don't look at my face. I know I'm covered in dirt and look really bad. I fix my shirt and sigh.I walk out my cell, avoiding the chair, and walk to the cafeteria. Everyone looks at me and I wave.
"Good morning."
"Good morning, Lexa." Rick says, sitting beside his son.
"I was thinking,"
"I don't like it when those words come out your mouth," I say, smiling though. He chuckles.
"Daryl and I are going on a run, do you wanna come?" He asks. I look at him.
"Why don't you take Carl. He's got a better eye than I do." I state. It's the truth, but I also don't wanna go. I really don't want to go.
"Carl wants to stay." Daryl says, "Plus your real fast."
"Take Glenn." I say, grabbing a bag of trail mix, avoiding eye contact. I open the bag and shake my head. I hand the bag to Beth as she walks by.
"I don't mind going." Glenn says, standing up.
"It won't be a problem."I smile.
"See. no problem." I say, looking at Daryl and Rick. They look at me, that look in their eyes. I shrug and walk over to a bag, pulling out a can of peas."Well, if you're here, you and Carl can work in the garden." Rick says, looking at Beth and Michonne. Beth nods once and walks away with Michonne.I raise an eyebrow, but push away my curiosity. I nod to Rick as I open the can with a knife.
"You know we have a can opener for a reason." Hershel says. I nod and smile.
"Yeah, but this is so much easier." I say, popping the top off and grabbing a spoon. I walk to my cell, taking a bit of peas.
"I'll be out there soon."Daryll get into the car, looking at Rick. I can tell he's worried about leaving the prison, but we gotta go on this run. We need formula and food. It ain't easy findin' this shit.
"You think they'll be alright?" Rick asks, look at Glenn in the back."Carl will be fine. The Governor hasn't come back in months and plus, they have Michonne and Maggie." Glenn says. I nod in agreement.
"It ain't like they're gonna disappear." I say, driving the car to the fence. Carl opens the gate, letting us out. But we have to wait fer him to open the doors too. When he does, we drive out, hitting a walker trying to get in. We drive down the road in silence. It seems too quiet, but it's nice. There's no cryin' baby or anyone yellin' fer help. But I can't help but worry about Lexa. Sure, she can handle herself, but a load of shit could at the prison and she could get hurt, or die.I push that thought away as we come up to a town. We pass a couple buildings before I park the car in front a .We get out, headin' into the store. I look around, then point out the at the back. Glenn heads back there as Rick and I go toward the food.
"Most'a this is expired." I say, looking at the cans of food. Rick looks at me and sighs.
"We'll have ta go farther out."He nods and walks to the baby isle, grabbing stuff for Ass-Kicker. Hell, she's grown up. She's getting big.Glenn runs toward me.
"Walkers!" He practically screams. I run to the exit, getting out as fast as I can. Rick runs out, climbing into the drivers seat. I climb into the back as Glenn gets in.We drive away just as a bunch of walkers come out the store. They follow the car, trying to get us as a meal.LexaI look at the dirt and sigh. I loosen the dirt like it should be. Who ever pats the dirt needs to stop.Carl gets down beside me and helps me. I'm still shocked about what he did. I mean, he said he had to, but why did he have to?I don't understand. He just shot the boy dead. he didn't care. That's why he doesn't have a gun now but when he gets it back he'll probably do it again.
"Lexa," He says. I don't look at him. He sighs and goes back to loosening the dirt. It's been different between us. He's different now, but it still doesn't change the past. We never had anything, so why does it matter?I stand up and sigh. I walk over to the water pump. I try for some water, but barely anything comes out. I cup my hands around my mouth.
"It's clogged!" I shout to Carl.He looks at me, then jogs over.
"We'll worry about it later."
"But we need water now. We're low." I say and walk to a closed opening in the gate. I pull the wire off the gate and go through. I run to the river as Carl shouts at me to come back.I pull the hose from the river and unscrew it, getting the mud out. Once it's cleaned out, I screw the top on, putting it in the water. I stand and grab my knife. I run to the opening, but there are walkers.I put my knife through ones head, but another falls on me. I stab that one in the neck and push it off. I try and pull my knife out its neck, but it's stuck. I stand and push the last walker on the fence, pushing its head through the fence.I get through the fence and it with the wire. I walk over to the pump, trying to catch my breath. I ran out of my inhaler and over came my asthma, but I still take caution.Carl runs over and starts the pump, water coming and falling in the bucket. I smile and look to the sky, putting my hands on my hips.
Carl POV
She risked her life just so we can have water. That's really brave. But it makes my a little upset she didn't wanna wait for someone to come help.I look at her as I work the pump. She seems to have gotten more beautiful than when I first saw her. Her black hair's always braided, and her pale green eyes are always fixed on what needs to be done. She's amazing, aside from her looks. She smart and brave and courageous. She's really nice too. And she's fearless.I stop the pump and stand up straight. I sigh and look towards the gate as a car pulls up. I run over and see Dad in the drivers seat. I open the doors and close them when Dad drives the car in.Lexa opens the fence and lets them. They drive the car to the prison and we follow. I take the bucket of water from Lexa so she can run to Daryl, which she does.Daryl hugs her tight, not letting her go. Glenn gets out the car, running inside to Maggie. Dad steps out the car and looks at me. I put the bucket down and hug him, he's back.Lexa looks at us then runs to the car. She grabs their bags and takes them inside. Dad watches her after pulling out of the hug. I watch her too.
"She's strong." Dad says, looking at Daryl.
"Those are about five pounds each."
"That's about nine pounds." Daryl says and chuckles.
"She'll make it."
