I slam my locker shut to come face to face with my best friend.
"Hey babe," he says with a wink. I roll my eyes at him as a smile breaks out across my face. "How was your winter break?"
"Stephanie was hell-bent on making my Christmas the worst one of them all," I let out a sigh as the two of us begin to walk down the corridor side by side. "Why can't I have normal parents? You know, ones that aren't divorced and remarried?"
Ashton spins around to walk backwards, staring at me as he talks. "Well why didn't you go chill with your mom for Christmas?"
"Because I don't think she-"
"Get it? Chill?" Ashton awaits for me to laugh. When I don't, his grin disappears and he rolls his eyes playfully. "Because your Christmas is in winter?"
"Yeah yeah, whatever. You're such a dad with all your terrible puns." I chuckle as he places a hand to his chest, feigning hurt.
"You cut me deep, you know that?" He speaks as if I've ripped off the whiskers to a cat.
"Shut up, dad." I laugh, turning a corner while Ashton crashes into someone. The poor victim falls over with Ash landing on top of them. I laugh even louder as I catch a glimpse at the person underneath my best friend.
Who else could Ashton have literally ran into other than his crush, right?
Ashton scrambles off the poor girl, offering a shaking hand out to her. She grabs onto his arm and Ash pulls her up surprisingly well.
I clasp a hand on either of their backs as a loud sigh escapes my mouth. "Well, what a way to crash into our good pal Lillian." I turn my full attention to the girl while Ashton burns a hole in the back of my head.
"Zora, right?" Lillian asks and I nod my head.
"Correct." I smile at her. "How you doin, little lady? Any marks or bruises? We wouldn't want that boyfriend of yours to get all protective and beat my little friend over here up now would we?"
She shrugs her shoulders, "I guess. Just watch where you're going, okay Ash?" Ashton looks towards Lillian with wide eyes before nodding his head a bit too fast. "Bye guys." Lillian walks off awkwardly as Ash stares after her.
I turn to watch her walk off until Ashton hits my arm. I look back at him and laugh. "What was that for?" He asks harshly.
"Oh, don't be such a baby." I poke my tongue out at him and grab onto his arm, walking down the corridor once again.
He scoffs at me. "I'm not a baby," he mumbles under his breath. I shake my head at him. Poor boy.
// Not the best, but it's 2am and I needed to get this story idea out of my head and onto wattpad. I might rewrite this prologue...
