"Did you do your homework?" My mother asks. She folds the laundry acting like it has her complete attention but she glances at me quite often

"Yes mama." I reply politely with my eyes glued on my phone texting Ariel.

She purses her lips "When?"

"When you took Matty to the store." Matty is my little brother. My mother doesn't say anything. She just continues to fold away.

Suddenly my phone vibrates with a call.

It's him.

I feel my heart pulse harder than normal.

"What's that?" Mom asks. I plaster a fake smile "Just Ariel. It's probably just about our class assignments."

Mom nods the way she always does when I mention school. She values my education and she trusts me.

sometimes I don't care that I should have lost it ages ago.

I run up to my room and answer it "Hello?"

"Where are you?" His gruff voice answers. It makes me press my thighs together. Even his voice alone is tempting.

"Home."

"I want to see you now."

"But my mother is home." I stutter.

"Find a way." He barks before dropping the line. I hold my phone glaring at it, wanting to be angry that he commanded me. But I can never loathe him.

Even when I should.
