"Sissy!" My little sister, Juno, yelled at me.
"Okay, okay. I'll tell you a story, but it has to be short, okay?"
Juno lightened up and giggle and said, "I knew you would! How about... The Three Little Pigs. Please!!!!" I smiled and got out the book and started reading:
"Once upon a time there were three little pigs. One pig built a house of straw while the second pig built his house with sticks. They built their houses very quickly and then sang and danced all day because they were lazy. The third little pig worked hard all day and built his house with bricks. A big bad wolf saw the two little pigs while they danced and played and thought, "What juicy tender meals they will make!" He chased the two pigs and they ran and hid in their houses. The big bad wolf went to the first house and huffed and puffed and blew the house down in minutes. The frightened little pig ran to the second pig's house that was made of sticks. The big bad wolf now came to this house and huffed and puffed and blew the house down in hardly any time. Now, the two little pigs were terrified and ran to the third pig's house that was made of bricks. The big bad wolf tried to huff and puff and blow the house down, but he could not. He kept trying for hours but the house was very strong and the little pigs were safe inside. He tried to enter through the chimney but the third little pig boiled a big pot of water and kept it below the chimney. The wolf fell into it and died. The two little pigs now felt sorry for having been so lazy. They too built their houses with bricks and lived happily ever after." I looked down at my sweet little mess of tiredness on the bed. She was fast asleep.
It was four years later when she was diagnosed with cancer. The doctors said it was not going to be able to be cured. They Said that Juno had 3 more years left to live. It was apparently a rare cancer, and my family and I were devastated. It was probably one of the most terrible things I have ever seen. Her beautiful hair fell out. She got paler. And soon she got to weak to walk or even stand.
This year is the last year my sister has.The doctors assume she will be dead before July.
"Aya?" I hiccuped. I was definitely about to cry. The pain and pressure building up in my throat started like someone had punched me in the throat. I couldn't help but think of my sister, my hun passing away.
"What is it baby?" Aya asked, "Oh no, what's up honey?"
I struggled to talk without crying instantly. "Juno... she only has-" I tried to talk, but I instantly broke down in tears. Snot running down my nose. Aya rushed by my side and hugged me as tight as she could as soon as I had started to talk. Aya was hushing me and caressing my skin while her other hand was stroking my hair. Juno's hair was gone... She used to have such beautiful thick brown hair, like mom's. "She only has 3 more weeks Aya. Three! Three weeks! It's not fair! It's not fair! She's so young babe! Ohhh..." I wailed in my love's arms. "She'll be dead. In three weeks." I cried.
"Shh, shh, shh. It's going to suck baby, I know. She will always be with us in our hearts baby. Shh, shh. Calm down love, I am here for you baby. I am here. You are not alone, I promise." My love sobbed holding me tight.
I felt so angry. I felt sad, and I felt hopeless. I loved my sissy with all my heart... she is only 13 right now. I just couldn't bare it.
Memories of us together filled my mind instantly, trying to hold on to an invisible rope, wanting to pull myself out of this current nightmare...
She was running along the beach in California, I was Knee deep into the ocean watching her laugh and giggle as the wave tickled Juno's feet. She stopped and came to me me into the ocean, the air smelt fresh, and the sound of waves surounded my ears. "Juno sweetie," I said, "Do you ever just stop to listen to the waves, cause' you should."
"Why?" She asked.
"Memories." I sighed/ She was only about 6 years old, she probably didn't understand.
"Let's play...." Juno insisted.
That was one of my fave memories of me and her.
