.......Herbert Marcauly road is in chaos! A car just ramped through the third mainland bridge into the river....A man and a woman recovered! Identity still unknown! It's a red car! Model still unknown!

Carla sat transfixed to her seat in the daily news office at Ikoyi, Lagos where she works as an editor in chief, listening to the news on the radio. Lord! Preserve their lives she prayed. How often accidents occurred at the third mainland bridge and how rare victims rescued made it alive, she wondered. The government would have to do something about....................................The victims didn't make it! The reporter interrupted Carla's thoughts. It's a Mazda 626 the reporter continued.

Oh no! Dad's model is a 626 muttered Carla, but it couldn't be dad since today is Friday considering dad and mum usually have friends over for prayers about now. With that in mind, Carla relaxed, said a prayer for the victims, packed up, put off the radio and headed out to catch up with the prayers.

On her way out, she met up with Gabriel, the daily news security officer. Heard the news Miss Carla?

Sure Gab!

It's such a terrible news. You drive safely home Miss, Gabriel pleaded softly.

Thanks Gab, am sure you know bad things never happen to me because the master is always before me.

Sure thing Miss Carla!

Goodnight and have a lovely weekend Carla called out as she rushed off.

CHAPTER ONE

Be strong and courageous! Those were the words of pastor Vincent in the last Sunday service that kept coming back at Carla on her way home. Be strong for what? She muttered out loud as she switched on the radio shutting out her mind and sang along the song by faith evans "if I had to do it all again, I wouldn't take away the pain cause I know it made me who I am............................."

Even with the loud song, Carla's mind still wasn't at rest. Settling back into the seat, she wondered how the kids of the victims were coping. Now that's the word for them, she muttered "be strong and courageous".

As she drove into idowu lane where she lives, Carla shuddered from the cold that just hit her. When's the dry season coming, cause am tired of this rain with it's cold. I can't even wash my clothes for fear of the rain she thought bitterly.

Usually before 9pm, everyone was indoor in idowu lane but it was rather strange to see people sprawled around. Carla felt watched as she slowly progressed towards her house. She wondered what was going on as the look on these faces were that of pity and concern. As she approached her parking lot, she sighted a police patrol car infront of her house and only then did she realize that the crowd she saw were all flocking to her home.

Carla's heart began to beat as fast as the speed of light. Oh God! She whispered, don't let it happen. Just as she stopped the car, she jumped out and headed straight for the door pushing her way past the throng of people.

Mum? Dad? Carla shouted. Her aunty reggie ran to her, but she evaded her and headed for her parents room.

Why are they all crying? Carla wondered. Mum? Dad? Whats going on? She shouted as she bursted into their room finding only her two younger ones Dami and Dare. They both ran to hug her and seek answers.

Where is Mum and Dad? She asked after calming them down. They had to go to aunty bellas' for prayers today cause she was sick, Dami answered. Then it hit Carla hard in the guts and she screamed with all the strength she had left.
